Correct x 10000 The reason we get big winds on hot days is Port Alberni really heats up and as the hot air (not from inhabitants) rises, it draws in the cooler air from out in Barkley Sound. The longest straight shot is from Pocahontas to Franklin River - that allows the wind to crank up the wave action by the time you hit Nahmint. Not uncommon on really hot days for 5 to 6 foot green ones to be encountered. Sometimes the Alberni Harbour also allows a straight shot, creating some really intense wind waves at the entrance to the river. Watch out for logs, the waves hide them really well. Travel safe, its nasty.
