Pod 'ing a Double Eagle

Not my boat. Just sharing the info and pics. My buddy Derek that owns Ocean's West Marine Fabrication in Sooke is doing the pod for this customer.

Boat started out as a 1994 18' Double Eagle with 110hp outboard and back seating. After the changes it's now a 21' with more back deck, auxiliary fuel tank, fish box, and 150 hp OB.

The fiberglass seating and engine well was cut out , leaving as much of the structure as possible. Twelve 1/2" bolts hold the pod to the transom. The extra fuel tank is bolted to the transom and to the front fish box skirt...and the fish box is bolted to the new transom back and along the top of the gunnels making everything integral to the boats structure.

The boat was in great condition to start out with a solid 2-1/2" thick transom so Derek decided to do the conversion. Some of them his customers ask this to be done on boats that are too far gone to do these conversions on and he passes on lot's of them. This one was a good candidate for the conversion.

The customer of this boat asked for the new aluminum work to be powder coated. Right now it's all sent out for powder coating and should be done at the end of next week. I'll update the post with pics as it gets finished up.

That’s pretty sweet, always thought about doing something similar with my 17’ hourston cutting the motor well out would definitely give me a nice dance floor.
