And so it begins....

Good power choice. Reliable and fuel efficient. 150 can be good for trolling too. Why not 200's?

Will be nice to see the hull and all the work he has put in.

A few reasons for the 150's besides what you said. I have owned a 150 and know it pretty well. The boat is really built around that power set up and the performance has been excellent from speaking with the builder. I got what I think is a screaming deal on them. And lastly I think every manufacture of motor's has one or two that has always been their number one motor. I think in Yamaha's case over the last ten years it's the 150 and arguably their 115 which was a little light for this boat. I know the 200 is good too. It doesn't help when my wife asked me the same thing about being enough power. She says she doesn't want to hear about it later! lol I'm lucky that way....she has only ever asked about the price of the hull. But I'm far from being rich so trying to keep some sort of budget...if that's even possible? ;)

I know my build is a bit longer and wider than what he originally spec'd but that was a lot of our discussion early on was around power options. He said on a 24' he has seen a single 250 or 300...twin 115's...twin 140's and twin 150's. In his opinion that hull really likes the twin pod and really improves the ride. He also mentioned that people who put twin 115's are happy but some have made comments about when the time comes to repowering it will be with 150's. I started off thinking I was going with this package. I flopped back and fourth on brands a few times and even considered a single application. In the end it all just sort of came into place. And yes...looking forward to seeing it in person!

Well not as exciting as boat build pictures. I picked up a decent stereo in Nanaimo today and will hand it to the builder tomorrow along with a few other items. I think I’ll have plenty of pictures after my visit tomorrow! Lol

I got a new batch of pictures today from the builder before I head up in the morning. He has all the floor pieces cut and fitted but won’t be welding them until next week when the flotation goes in. The front sheets are in place to start forming the cabin. Looks like the first piece of the rear of the cabin is tacked up as well. He has begun the gunnels installation and has done some more work on he dash and helm. The next pictures will be ones I take!

Well today was a pretty full day to say the least. I left my parents house in Mill Bay with them and my daughter at 8:00ish this morning. Drove to Campbell River to get the trailer. I have to admit after seeing the new Tuff Trailer in person it is very impressive and worth a look if you are looking for a new trailer in the future. Managed to make it to the builder by about 2:00 with the trailer...Shockwave bases...stereo and a few beer for the guys. They were busy at it when we showed up. After a quick look at everything we went over several things and got the tape measure out to get it exactly how I wanted it. Things like window heights....tinted or non tinted....fish box size and rear helm location. We also finalized how the bow pulpit and and anchor locker would be set up and speaker location. Lots of other things as well. A pretty cool day for me but a blur also...lol. All in all seeing the boat in person really blew me away. The pictures don’t come close to showing the detail and the actual space he has built. It feels a lot bigger than I was expecting and is going to be the total package I was hoping for. It has taken away any of the “I’m I doing the right thing?!?”lol. I can say that I made the right decision!!! Enjoy the pics....

Looking good!

Not sure if you said, but what is the estimated completion date?

I haven’t nailed him down to an exact date. He says it’s going well and quickly...but I’m thinking February. I originally told him I wanted by Spring and he said it would be done before then.

looks like they are making great progress, people do not realize the man hours it takes to build a vessel. :)

Definitely true.....you really get a feel for it when you see it in person and see the size of it as well as just how many pieces and welds there are. Most of them will never be seen again but I can tell you he makes full welds and the ones below deck are as nice as the ones you can see.

The boat is looking great! FYI if you take pics on your phone with the phone sideways with the home button to the right the pics will post up normally on forums and in email.

What can I say other than I was excited! Lol. I did email them to myself to make them smaller and they were correct. I saved them from the email but they still flipped when I uploaded. Camera sideways next time for sure! Way easier...lol

Made it back on Sunday from my trip to the coast. I got a lot of things handled and feel more relaxed now that most of the big ticket items are taken care of. I'm just reposting a few of the new pictures that I took just with the proper orientation this time! o_O

Very nice, Maybe i'll have to step up my game and build something bigger lol

No...I’d say you are doing it right. I think up to a certain size it would be fun and a great project. Anything too big would be a nightmare unless you had lots of time and patience...lol.

My weekly boat **** showed up today. Pictures pretty much show the progress from my trip out. Flotation foam is in and the cabin is looking more like a cabin.

Boats looking great!!

How is the foam installed through out the keel section? Is there an air gap or barrier coat? I'm curious on how this is done. Any insight would be much appreciated.

I can get the full details from him if you want. He was prepping for a barrier coat when I was there I believe. He also welds a drain channel along the bottom. Basically looked like 3 or 4” flat bar that was welded across the V on the inside obviously. There were notches on both sides of it. It will allow condensation to run to the flat bar through the notches and run to the bottom of the air space created between it and the hull. Anything there will run to the pod where the bilge pump is. The deck is fully welded so water getting in isn’t the issue but it will sweat a bit. You can see sort of what I mean in some of my pictures of the fuel tank opening. Honestly I’m not expecting it to be a big deal with regular intervals out of the water and getting a chance to air out. I’ll take the weight of the foam for a quieter safer hull. IMO anyways....lol. Pic 110 from the pictures before these last few sorta shows it.
