300k boat for 200k

The 454 cubic inch (7.4) versions were great, especially with Bravo 3 drives. These are laid out well, great cabin visibility, nice looking boat too. I was deciding between a 2700 SCR or this model years ago, but the price was better on the Maxum, but I went all over this design, and it is well suited to local waters, a week away etc.
The 8.1 or 496 is the motor to have in these Bayliners. I have a 289 or 2859 with a 350 Mag MPI. It does the job, but the torque of the big block is key.

I wasn’t going to mention Bayliner in this thread , for fear of being flamed out. I have a 2004 289 Discovery. In 2021 I bought it from near Seattle. Came with a tri axle trailer, relatively new electronics, bow thruster, and Wallas cooktop/heater. I paid $40 k. With some upgrades I’m at $60 plus. I didn’t want a command bridge, so I can see out the front window, while on the back deck. I like the Alaska bulkhead and the room for 4 adults plus to sleep on. But she likes gas!! I find myself using the kicker to ride the tides and fish, more often. More enjoyable to enjoy the sights.8F0A5219-9BAD-4A8E-9255-AFB63E4ECBE9.jpegD8FF2815-3167-41EB-8CD0-B88CA88EF0EC.jpeg

7.4/454 is also a torque monster big block Chevrolet, they work well in this set up. Small block never made sense to me in that 28' boat, even the 383 stroker version. No substitute for a long stroke with big bore and heavy reciprocating parts.

All smiles after taking everyone on a Marlin,
Even had the wife excited, but she’s my voice of reason and had a few legitimate concerns with the seating arrangement. Happy wife happy life, going to pass on the Marlin.
Sorry guys this boat isn’t posted, or I would send a link. It’s a forum members boat and if he wants to post it he can…

Not too sure about my wife’s voice of reason… she also asked if I’m going to hang my commander emblems on the wall in my office 😔

I can’t see the seating making her happy but that windshield makes me happy but the trailer and outboards don’t.

How’s this for seating? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/926538501856804/?mibextid=6ojiHh

happy wife happy life? don’t buy a boat with an open cabin. a cold or seasick wife trumps it all. go buy a seasport or a skagit orca or any boat with an enclosed cabin

Gradys. Just thinking out loud here. The fact they have more composite materials in their hull layups and the seating and windshields, I think on a walk around in that size they seem to check more boxes
Oh, I respect your opinions on boats. I wasn’t sure what the comparison was
