23 Hourston podding

Made some more progress today I removed counter that I need to reconfigure for the shock wave seat. But also to get at the crapy hull fitting for the sink. Looks to me to be a bit of a design flaw with the hull fitting as there’s Not much room to get a hose on it perhaps it is broken. With the other Hourston I’ve built the fitting coming off the hull fitting has always been broken and I’ve been able to slip the hose right over top of the threads of the entire fitting.
I’m not gonna be using the icebox anymore so there’s no point having the drain hose from it going to the fitting so will Probably repeat the same procedure. The fitting looks pretty solid, If your looking for a harvest gold Oven or a ice box in great shape make me an offer

I hope to do the odd over night in it. I’ve decided the cabinet will be shortened and the shockwave seat will sit on its own riser separate from the cabinet. I will also be getting a drop in dual propane burner. You can’t beat bacon and eggs in the morning

A table can be fabbed up for cheap to plug into rear seat pedestal. A Coleman camping stove and a jug of water good to go. But that’s just me, I want to fish with the most room possible. Extra junk can live upfront till the sun goes down...

There’s my 20’ with port set bailing fishwell/bench seat and stbd storage box/seat mount. All passengers can plant feet on deck while travelling, much safer in the rodeo weather and keeps center of gravity lower...

I cant remember if I'm subd to your thread but Jenkins is on my list to call for my hourston island runner podproject, even more so after servicing that stupid VP 320gxi for the last time today. Old Billy must be laughing his bag off with how tight they stuffed that lump in there. Installing the bracket for the raw water pump is done totally blind...last time for that bs!

I'm fairly sure I want to use a pdr pod out of Bellingham, but I also know of a c dory on the island that Jenkins just built a pod for and it looks great. I'm calling this week...one more season with this lump and plan for the fall. Cheers and good luck, keep us posted.

I will give a full review of the pod you bet

They said three weeks. But I’m just being impatient that was the 11th of Jan

Is Jenkins taking on the full design of your pod too? As in, they're planning any shift in ballast? Im also leaning towards a Suzuki with either the 350 or 300 duoprop. I believe they weigh the same. Cheers

Yes they are doing the design of the pod. And filling the transom hole.. They’ve done numerous 23hourston‘s.
The shifting of weight for ballast really won’t be able to be done if needed until the motor and everything is in the boat. I can’t remember who said it but they said that 23hourston built on Monday could we numerous hundreds of pounds different than one built on Wednesday. One guy that I know that has a 26 Sportfisher had numerous hundreds of pounds of lead added to the back of his boat. That pod was not built at Jenkins. Long story short it doesn’t seem to be an exact science for the volume of the pod chamber. I also decided to pass on the powder coating as most I have seen are peeling off. Starting right where the engine bolts go through the pod. And from what I understand once it starts peeling there’s no fixing itAEEFE8FE-72E1-4BF7-A497-CE7296D60C53.jpeg

If you ever bite down on a hook while you’re having breakfast, I think I know where it might have come from.

Well I couldn’t stand it any longer so I went to Jenkins to have a look at the progress. I meet up with Tom and he kindly answered all of my questions Patiently and unhurried.
They are Currently podding seven boats.
and a 24 zeta looked to have just arrived for the same work. Here’s a few pics 6B216D24-7D15-452D-913B-9D64E7B9A90C.jpegE04E6F27-3BCE-456D-A42F-32D96DB8270A.jpegF3B2C080-8D14-41C0-B62D-5183BEF3E0CE.jpegAEC69E9B-962F-4DC9-A4B5-5909E8A8EFB5.jpegBE5885B3-CAD9-41E4-B5B0-9CE59AB4F31D.jpeg

One issue I am trying to figure out is if a flush mount through hall transducer (b175hw) will sit flush on the hull. In the spot a rough looking water pick up for the old 351 sits the hull might be to round for it to sit flush. So yeah if you have one of these in your boat in the hull is rounded like that feel free to let me know if it works. Looks like the pics don’t show the roundness of the hull to well5FA426F4-9AA5-48C7-8876-769126B972BA.jpeg8AE37CA5-08DF-4BF4-8E94-BDE9BD9CECF1.jpeg466B727D-C148-47B1-B686-1C115EA7DFB0.jpegB1DC33B2-7DA5-4E72-813E-EF5974B1CD6A.jpeg

You can go up the side of the hull a bit and use one of the models that matches your deadrise. I think your curve there is too much. Make a round template so you can put against the hull and see how it would fit.

I did put a B175HW Centerline on my Commander but it is pretty flat at that spot. Still had to grind it down a bit to make it flush. My fiberglass was 1.5” thick at that spot so had lots to play with. Would be interesting to know what the Hourston is. Bet it is very thick too.

Your going to want Jenkins to fill that pickup hole in anyways ,so I would have them add extra glass to build up a fairing piece for your transducer thats flat on the bottom ,easy peasy.Otherwise you can buy the tilted arbor transducer for a differrent spot on the hull.Just be sure that the center mounted transducer won't put too much air in front of your prop,I don't think it would if faired in.
