ECVI Nanoose, French Creek Report

That ramp is legendary. In the 1970's my old man and some of his cronies would sometimes meet there in the early mornings, coffee in hand, just to watch the shenanigans.

He would come home belly laughing with a smile on his face you couldn't scrub off with a wire brush from all the crazy things he saw. LOL.

If you want to get out quick sometimes you gotta get wet. We also came around that time. Was a show with the low tide, barge taking up one side and the unusual number of boats launching. I tied up to the loading dock on the right next to the fish cleaning table, walked up the dock ramp, got my truck, backed down the far right side, drove on and was out in 5 minutes. Helps having a trailer easy to drive onto, but even if you have to crank it on it works. Each side of the ramp is wide enough for two rigs.

I spend my summer enjoying the antics at that ramp, it's a 5 minute drive from where I holiday and its cheap entertainment for sure!

It's amazing how no one on here is talking about the Little Q we were there this morning sure it was slow but the reports from the guys at the dock was that we just hit a bad day. The fish were just not biteing today but they were there finning and jumping all around us.

Go get them before they turn into black boots.

was out yesterday off F.C.....started at 11:30 a.m.

Guys that were coming in while we were launching said there were about 60 boats at the LittleQ and that while lots of fish were finning/jumping they weren't biting much.

Another guy said he got 2 Chum and 2 Plus20lb Chinooks down near White Door in the a.m.

We didn't go to rivers......fished out front to White Door.

Bite time was good up until about 1 p.m.and then dropped of a bit.

Hadn't caught anything previously on the "Qualicum Killer" but today it was the only thing that caught fish. There are variations of the "Qualicum Killer". I was using an Electric Chair Hoochy ( Clear UV with glow pink stripe down side) and a pink hoochy inside with a twinkle skirt inside that.....behind Purple Haze or Pink haze flashers. Tried lots of other lures that didn't produce.

Didn't get any lunkers....but caught quite a few smaller Chinook that were not legal so released plus a multitude of dinkers and also Dogfish.

I was thinking best bet at the rivers is early a.m or a.m. with a good low tide slack before lunchtime.

Did not mark a heck of a lot of fish on finder......but after about 2p.m. there seemed to be less and less. We stayed til about 7:30 .

Fished all over the place at different depths. Lots of smaller dinker Coho jumping here and there.

Quite a few boats out there....didn't see much of anything caught.

Most of the fish I marked were in the 20 to 70ft range.

saw quite a few seals around 6pm right in front of the entrance to the marina.......went over there (boat traffic was light at that time) to see what they were after. Noticed a huge school of something in about 120ft deep of water . School was from 20ft to 70ft. Trolled right through it several times but only got a foul-hooked dogfish.

Did not show as bait on the finder...showed as individual fish.

There were all these small bubbles like pop-fizz coming up.......although you couldn't see any bait. The only thing that makes bubbles is herring ( and crabs if you believed Phil Harris....;).....
Trying to figure out what made all the bubbles as I don't think I was over a baitball.....

Went out for the first time this year for a morning fish. Had a boat load of relatives out to try to get them into a fish or two. It wasn't a day we had to try; 8am-11:15 ; never went more than 10 minutes without bring up another fish or a hit. managed 2 pinks about 5lb released 2 springs about the same size ; shook off 2 wild coho 5-7lb; 4 shakers 5 dogs; plus a wack of hits that were to common to count. many times as soon as we got down to 90' another would be banging at the hooks. I was sweating so hard with the yells of oh oh oh I have another one I was exhausted when I got in But Man it was a load of fun guiding them to the excitement of one after another. They said is it always this good out here ......... I wish! Spackle back hootchie was the hot lure of the morning. But I also had hits on the spoons as well. Seemed most like us were into fish steady and when we came in most had 1-2 on board. Maybe try tonight if someone wants out.

I enjoyed my summers when living in Parksville catching fish. Lol. Would launch my boat and be off fishing, didnt have to time to lolly gag around watching the ramp. Wish I still lived there...

Out yesterday off Scooner Cove..

Kept one 7 and 1/2 lb hatch Coho.....although I caught several more in that size that either got off or were wild

In various places there were huge surface baitballs.....

In this pic you can see that......

005.jpg

lure was down about 50ft

This spoon and flasher (spoon was 60 inches behind flasher) outperformed everything else....tried running it against an ordinary Cop Car. It out performed it by far.......

Sorta......it originally was a Coyote Cop car.....changed the hook out......

The tape is fluorescent orange......which I bought in sheets and had to laboriously cut each little dot out by hand....

I had a spoon like this that I used last year.......and it caught Chinooks too......

Was out off F.C. on Friday from 11:30 a.m. to about 6:30 p.m.

Big Wave dave and Environment Canada blew it big time.

Supposed to be sunny with 5k winds..........HAHAHA!.....more like 20k winds with a cold Nor'easter and huge fog banks ( thank God for GPS).......whitecapped all the time.

Worst day I've put in this year...

Targetting Coho....couldn't find much......they all must be up by Little Q or Gerald/Mistaken.......but I didn't go to Little Q.

Didn't see any bait around F.C............

Tried punching in right close to along the F.C. beach area (15ft of water etc).......lots of some kind of fish on the finder.....around 3 p.m. had several hits doing this for about 15 minutes.
But doing this meant a lot of weed snags as well.....

before and after that it was dead.........

Then to add insult to injury...........I backed the boat into the garage but forgot to take the upright rods out of the rocket-launchers....and......snapped two rods in half when they hit the top of the garage doorway........
