For weather wether boating the Grady layout is excellent. Also great for single handed operation.

Foul weather days...different game. The marlin can hide 4 people seated undercover...barely. anything smaller that isn't an express, two people.have cover the rest are left to the weather...

I'm leaning towards a pursuit walk around for my next route, slightly better hardtop coverage (talking an extra inch or two which most Grady could use). I'm trying to avoid the 30s, and the 28 pursuit is a much more versatile layout than the 28 Grady sailfish. BUT the pursuits are even harder to find, especially the 28s.

Hope the Grady is to your liking. There is a 305 express for sale in Sidney, It has E-Tecs.
 
Thats what i dont like about the Gradys. The topside. Unless you put a proper hardtop with rear extension for me its a useless boat for the size. That step up into the helm is another area where I can see people tripping or slipping. Still cant get past the ski boat windshields. Ive probly driven at least a dozen different grady models in water tests over the years, the ride is unreal. They have a great hull. I wish they would skinny up the walk around, make the helm area wider ( which doesnt really apply to the 30's as much ), put full length tall windows and about 3 feet more covered area for 2 more seats. The 23 gulfstream with a proper hardtop is a nice boat. Wish they did that boat in a 28
 
Marlin's are very nice but require lots of power/fuel and I for sure wouldn't consider trailering one,but I'm sure you can find a rig big enough to do the job.

Ultimately the future goal is that this is a fish boat or quick cruiser with the larger boat coming in the future as the ‘mothership’. The ultimate plan being to tow the comfy fish boat to desolation or further then be able to punch up north quickly for a few days of fishing or just have a slightly excessive runabout… several years off at this point.

We managed to push through to getting it back on the water, very happy we did. It cruises between 25 kts and 30 kts comfortably, when it blows up it can get a bit bouncy but then even a 30 foot protector does…. To test it out we put a 350 on the back, probably twin 250s will be the final configuration. However in it’s nearly there and in the current configuration it works, we can fish or go cruising for a week or two.

I can’t tell you what will work for you, but if the aim is cruising then get a big boat (assuming budget works), they come with tenders that can be very fishy, then finish up the 26, unfortunately anything comfortable for a family will be a challenge to tow depending on the level of comfort you want on a rainy evening.

Something the commander should a looked like.
It’s been over half a year since we worked on the commander… I didn’t complete it in the time frame I had. It’s was fun when we had time… with no time on our side it just took all the fun away from it. I never intended someone else to build this boat, just someone to help me and guide me thru it… on my time. I don’t have a job anymore where I can plug away at it consistently. I need a turn key boat, and focus on a few other things. Add up all these things, it took the fun out of this build for me, unfortunately, I don’t know what to say or do about that… but until I have time where this build can be fun for me again…. I’m not gonna do it

I think they listened to you re: full windshields, I've seen some newer ones with them.

Yeah fair enough. They are starting to fit them that way. I don't even wanna know what a new 30ft grady costs.

Also if I'm not mistaken they are still building them with wood. Only the 30 and up are foam core? Somthing like that. Not sure when the cutoff was. Last 10 years I wanna say.

Stripers. No wood. Wider wheelhouse than grady and full windshields. Look at the 29 and up stripers
 
So it's not for sale atm and there's no price because it's a future sales item?

Theres a 2013 2901 Hardtop at Sherwood in Victoria . 580hr , 300 Verados. I myself, like the uncluttered view as opposed to the mess Grady puts in front of you.

That windshield is nice. Finding a boat that sleeps 4 comfortably is a real challenge. My enclosure don't the back will be a saviour when the kids don't all want to sleep in the same bed with us. #kingsizeisnotbigenough
