With only 6 days left to get your entry's in to take part in the First Annual SFBC Salmon Derby 2014, we have up for grabs another early bird prize! A pair of custom finished needlefish spoons, designed by Iron Noggin. Years in the making, these spoons will be the first spoons issued publicly, with a commercial release this summer.

Entry must be received by May 31st 2014 11:59pm to be eligable to win these rare spoons

Not only will you have a chance to win these awesome spoons by joining the derby, you may just win the derby with them.

So many of you always tell us how we need to support enhancement yet I have not seen your $25 as of yet. Remember 100% of your $25 entry goes directly to Little River Enhancement Society, thus adding to the betterment of LRES. The fact is, the fish that the LRES puts into the water pass by many fishing ports on their way back to the spawning grounds so they are inevitably helping coastal fishing.

Even though Little River Enhancement Society is not in your back yard, next year it could be your local hatchery selected to benefit from this derby, and it could be you looking for entries from other members in other communities to support the cause in your backyard.

Many of you are already entering other derby's this summer, so why not try to win two derby's with your catch.

Please don't contact me about these spoons. I am in no way affiliated with the production of these spoons. They were offered up in support of the 2014 SFBC Salmon Derby as a early bird give away.

Good Luck,

Well with only 5 days left before entry cut off for the SFBC 2014 Salmon Derby another great member has stepped up in an attempt to get you off your wallets and give your $25 to the Little River Enhancement Society. Thank You, Andrew P.

I have been given 3 sets of Sand Lance Needlefish Spoons to give away

Your $25 goes directly to LRES. 100% of it is used by volunteers to put salmon back in our waters that swim up and down this coast enriching the sport fishery of British Columbia and beyond.

Show your support by getting your $25 entry in

All entry's must be postmarked or received prior to June 1 2014

A draw for these 3 sets of spoons will be held June 10th 2014. This will allow 7 business days for postmarked entry's to arrive.

Check your email folks!!! Time to forget about whatever reason has kept you from joining the SFBC derby. Even if you only fish a small amount,or are one the many that contribute to many other projects, there is still no real reason not to enter this one. Never seen a format that allows an entrant to have so many chances to win something while conducting there season as normal.

Clearly every one of us can see the enormous potential a derby of this format can have in making a difference to enhancement projects coast wide. By the extreme generosity displayed by the many businesses and forum members in the form of donations and promotion, it is obvious that they see the value in ensuring this first year is a success.

As I see it the success of this years derby will only ensure the success and growth for years coming. More importantly is the fact that this success and growth will have a direct impact on your local enhancement project wen your area is selected as the recipient .

The organizers of this thing have gone above and beyond to meet peoples needs in an effort to make this derby as effortless as possible to enter and take part in. There are only a couple days left to enter. Please take the less than 5 minutes it takes to get your entry in and be a part of the fun and positive contributions this derby will ultimately add to our fishing seasons both now and in years to come.

Like Jencourt said....let's go guys!!

Especially you South Island guys! Remember that very few of the fish that we catch actually come from our area. Of course many are gifts from our friends to the South, but many of the fish that pass through the Juan De Fuca are heading to other BC watersheds and those hatcheries need funds and this is a great platform for generating those funds and connecting all of us anglers!

Not sure if this has been asked yet but here goes.......
how do us mainlanders weigh in a fish? I am not aware of any of our local marinas, fuel docks(and we dont have any lodges) that are set up to weigh fish.
sewells may be but that would be a 20 mile run for most of us that run out of the harbour and for guys coming out of the Richmond launches it just isnt feasable
any suggestions, would a measurment weight with pictures be acceptable? and same for catch and release?

How about some where in Granville Island, any tackle stores on your way home? Maybe a fuel dock and pack your own scales. Bet the fuel dock or fishing store would even take your photo for you and hang it on their board.

You only need to verify big fish. Others are just hidden weight entry's.

As of June 1st you will know what you are trying to beat. If it's not close no need to verify.

I'm thinking mosquito creek fuel dock may do it as they are now trying to stock and sell popular tackle and bait so it would be in their interest.
I'll ask

I sent the GM and dock master at Mosquito creek emails asking if they could help out

Ok sounds like mosquito creek fuel dock would like to help out
What would they need to do to verify the catch?
Simply a picture at the dock or something in writing or........?

Some thing was built and is being posted that will outline what we will need if you catch a derby winner.

Remember if its not a big one all you need to do is take a picture and tell me the weight is.

Personally my feeling is if it's not over 30lbs it likely ain't going to be needed to be verified.

The leaders will be posted as of tomorrow if it's not bigger then the 3 leaders there is no reason besides personal reasons to verify.

Today is the last chance for you to enter.....

Is over $15,000 in prizes and helping the salmon not enough to make you get off your wallet? 100% of your entry goes to Little River Enhancement Society.

Email me at sfbcderby2014@gmail.com to enter

You Know-you can't win if you don't enter! Who knows -maybe you are as good as you say you are-but we'll never know if you don't enter!! Make sure your kids are entered-they will never have such a good chance to win a derby again. Memories of a lifetime with Dad or Mom or Both!!!

^^^ What he said. Also it's kind of fun to see Owen working so hard to process the entries. Don't think he's worked this hard in years! Looks good on him!
