Tsawwassen Bass Pro Shop

Can't for the life of me figure out why anyone would shop there. Expensive, who's buying a tracker boat.....no one. Much smaller than Calgary or Vegas bass pro. Seen it once never to return and didn't buy a thing. As far as the traffic goes total gong show.

FYI - Bass Pro in Tsawwassen is 148,000 sq.ft. Vegas is 165,000 and Calgary is 150,000.
All close in size and very similar product offerings. Nice to visit, might inspire some interest in the great outdoors.

I checked out the one in calgary years ago and I made a big deal about leaving my wallet in the truck. I saw stuff I would like to have but no good deals or very few sales and stuff generally was/seemed pricey. I never went back and I'm up there a couple times a year. I feel the same about cabbalas in Nam. I go if I need something but Im also inclined to shop for small stuff online.

Fish Local? Support your local hunting and fishing stores!!
Not only does it support members of the community we live in but they are the ones who take strides in salmon conservation through derbys and support initiatives.

Stillwater Sports, 15 minutes from the mall. Great staff, excellent local knowledge.
Pacific Net and Twine - 30 mins from the mall. Also top-notch staff and local knowledge.

I agree 100% .. Why send your money to some big corporation when you can be supporting local tackle shops... , if it is like the bass pro in Calgary it is a great store too visit but i would prefer to supporting local businesses..

I am with Finished Business also, I will continue to go to my local tackle shops(Berrys Bait and PNT). It was a neat store but I can't see going out there to purchase saltwater fishing tackle on a regular basis. The sales people I spoke to were not all that knowledgeable on saltwater tackle or equipment. When you only carry 4 different options on knuckle busters 3 minute from the ocean that is an issue!

Actually I do support the local tackle stores, Trotac, wise buy, PNT and others.

I just bought some flashers and others are made in Canada at one time. The flashers made by Gibbs in Canada. The Gibbs do donate to The derbies. I don't buy anything fishing gears made in USA. I do support our location great stores.

I find these big box stores more like Disneyland for fisherman. Lol. I get great service and fair prices from my local Trotac, Wisebuy, Harbour Chandler, and PNT guys and there all big supporters of the local derbies so I will send my dollars there. Plus I find they never have gear for the saltwater fishing we do here, can't comment on there freshwater gear as I don't fish freshwater. Might check it out if I'm waiting for the ferry, but that will be about it.

I went to the one in Calgary once. came out with as much money as I went in with. was fun to look around, but I doubt if I'll go to another one. I like PNT if they're in the area...

Did anyone check out the hunting stuff?
Do they have a big selection of firearms?
Do they have a decent archery section?

Just curious. Might go for a boat ride some day and take advantage of the shuttle. The wife can do her thing and I can kill some time at BP lol.

Great place to kill time while the vag..... ummmm wife is doing whatever she does. Unescorted lady could do serious fiscal damage in that mall though!

As for guns, yeah there's a ton of non restricted and pretty good selection of ammo. Nothing too exotic, but a good selection overall. Priced same as Cabelas pretty much.

A few restricted I believe, but never actually got up close to the display cases to really look. Like other guys said on here, I like to keep my firearms purchases with the local dude who knows his **** and talks to me face to face.

Seeing as the shops in the larger centres are getting plugged, let's not forget shops like Gone Fish'n, Tyee Marine, River Sportsman for stuff you need for hunting and fishing. Pretty much all along the road to your serenity wherever it is on the island, lol. Just as long as you take a right off the ferries in Nanaimo.

SPCA investigating the death of a sturgeon at Tsawwassen Mills mall

ABOVE: Tsawwassen’s new mega-mall has made plenty of headlines since its opening. Now one of the mall’s tenants is the focus of a bizarre investigation involving the SPCA. Catherine Urquhart has the exclusive details.

The BC SPCA is now investigating the death of a sturgeon at the Bass Pro Shop in the Tsawwassen Mills mall.

“We do currently have an active and open investigation into the death of the sturgeon,” said Marcie Moriarty, head of the BC SPCA’s Prevention and Enforcement Department. “Right now I understand the fish is undergoing a necropsy and of course we’ll be waiting for those results.”

The metre-long sturgeon was being held in the pro shop’s 15,000 gallon aquarium and was on display to the public. Typically a bottom feeder, the fish could be seen floating at an angle with its nose above the surface when the mall first opened a few weeks ago.

After a vet determined the sturgeon was unwell, the fish was euthanized.

In a statement, Bass Pro Shops said:

Bass Pro Shops has extensive experience caring for live fish with elaborate aquariums throughout North America. Nobody cares more about the health and well-being of the animals than we do, which is why we go to extensive lengths to ensure their welfare with onsite marine biologists and veterinarians caring for the fish in our care.

In the wild, the white sturgeon is a threatened species. The one that died came from a commercial farm on the Sunshine Coast.

Bass Pro Shops isn’t saying if it plans to replace the white sturgeon at this time.

“We not only want to see the basic level of care being provided for animals but that the five freedoms are maintained and that includes their ability to express natural behaviours,” said Moriarty.

Totally agree... Whats next ??? Save the Sea Kittens ?? Oh-- I forgot-- PETA has already done that.......
save the LOBSTERS! Didn't you hear their screams when you put them in hot water? I volunteer my pot as lobster-friendly habitat.

Finally made it out today pretty much like I expected some disappointments but a few surprises.

Most things from the catalogues are nowhere to be seen.

Momoi Diamond line?

Nope

Quality ball bearing swivels?

Nope

DOA lures?

Nope

Neoprene case for a Calcutta 7000?

Nope

Plano worm binder for Hootchie storage?

Huh?Nope

Yo-Zuri Crystal Minnows?

Nope

Happy to see Maxima Chameleon haven't seen any in this country for 10 years maybe more.

For all that people are saying Bass Pro doesn't cover saltwater Salmon fishing I saw all kinds of gear P-Line hootchies have some great colours and lots of Yamashita product, Matrixx spoons are murder and BP has all sizes/all colours, flashers galore all sizes; the river gear is all there too as is the Halibut stuff lots of larger skirts for dressing up baits good prices on those.

Never looked @ the rods don't need any the reels were all there Peetz, Islander you name it.

Couldn't care less about the clothing why would I want to dress like someone from Woss?

Definitely the biggest disappointment was trying to get some lunch following directions I walked into a bowling cave full of howling screaming children when I indicated I couldn't hear what the hostess was saying she led me to a far corner of Uncle Bucks but the noise was still too much I left hungry & dehydrated.

From time to time I drive a bus out to the nearby village so I might be back one day but having spent a lot of time on the net lately looking for specialty tackle I know what BP offers on their website is generally knockoffs and lower grade options so they won't be seeing much money from me.

It wasn't a total bust though I did come home with some bathroom reading
