Salmon in Victoria lately?

That's a good sign if feeder's are back already...
they don't usually show up till end of Oct/Nov.

after the $hitty summer season, maybe there will be
a good fall fishery.
:)

At the risk of sounding dumb [:I] do the feeders ever really leave? If so, where do they go? Or are these a younger group if fish that are showing up?

I think they move offshore as migrating summer fish move back closer
to spawn.
the winter fish usually show up in november and hang around until
end of March.
Winter fish are almost always caught deep & close to the bottom.

That being said, there must be some that hang around because there are always a few caught outside of that time frame.

Did a quick tour of the flats this morning and hit a 42lb halibut
on the deck, purple haze hootchie...
got him to the boat once and missed with the gaff, down he went to the bottom.:(
Wound him back up again and another $hitty gaff shot, Got a salt water shower that time as the halibut took off.
Once more to the boat and slipped the gaff into his yap and into the boat.:D

P.S. sorry , forgot topic is Salmon in Victoria
oh well, not too many of them around anyway ;)

Nicely done. That's a beautiful fish. If gonna troll for salmon, and get skunked, you may as well catch hali. I think i am going to change my target fish. I think we should start a post, called 'cattle point'.

Went out for the late afternoon off the flagpole to Clover Point. One good smack (how do they miss a treble and a stinger??[?]) and an 8 pound hatchery feeder on chovy at 35 feet in about 180' off Clover. 6pm. LOTS of small herring showing on the sounder and in the feeders stomach.

Hey Scott

Nice fish there. I'll be out there on Wed night with a colleague to see if that guy has a brother (or sister). Loose planning underway for a blast up to Renfrew for a weekend trip.

wow... it happened again.

this time a nice 20 pound doe of the ledge... just as the sun set... that's our first mature spring of the waterfront this year.

i think its time to retire... ;)

very nice fish,
ive got a quick question, someone told me that the flats are just s.west of middle bank??
it took me around 145mins to get to it, to get skunked.
when you say that you made a quick tour, is someone pulling my leg??
i hope not as i wasted lots of gas to get there.
are the falts between discovery an trial???
any input would be good as im going to try tommorow again an i dont feel like a long drive hahah
thanks

Hey Baz,
Where on earth did you start from to take 2 1/2 hours to get to Oak Bay?
When r.s. mentioned "quick tour" I think he was referring to amount of time spent fishing there, not a ocean voyage like you made to get there!!

Better luck next time. It's called fishing, not catching. :)

I think you were misdirected...
Oakbay flats are about 2 miles directly south of Cattle point
boat launch, between Trial and Discovery.
A "quick tour" for me was a 1 hour trip;)

were you picking up any coho as well or was it just the feeders?

thanks, GB

here you go, thanks so much. i knew that boy was taking the ****,
ill be out there in the morning,
i was at the west side of trial today and got a couple of feeders,
110ft of water and running at 105 on the D/R.
all purple haze
see you out there

Was good off Constance this afternoon for feeders. Got a couple nice ones, shook a great one at the boat! Bait and hoochies were on.

Were they 5-8 lb torpedoes LC ?
