Commander 26 Re Build

The cost of building a new mold these day's would be insanely expensive. You would need to build it 2-3 times as heavy as a hull and reinforce in multiple locations to ensure that it doesn't flex or deform while a hull is being formed. And the mold has to be absolutely perfect. The pictures of Sir Reels wax job show how well the original mold was built.I don't know how young people will be able to make good money in the future with labour and material costs the way they are.And I paid $70 a gallon for resin at Industrial Plastics, total rip off,but only game in town.

Just wait till you all see the price of marine tinned copper lol. Just literally got off the phone with my rep about this. Major price increases coming. I found one loophole that will not be much of a hole when im done with it lol.

Next stringer looking goods, can’t wait for the weekend! Removed stringer number 3, cleaned up the area real nice, have one spot of delam upfront I need to grind down and reinforce before the stringer gets put down. The old stringer was resting on maybe half of the hull, the rest was suspended, especially up front, resting on patches of cabosil. Was able to use the stringer as a template but made the curve larger and cut a couple times to size, fits in perfectly. Also plugging away on the gel coat, LoL, started at 120 grit - wasted my time, 80 grit - still a waste of time, 40 grit now that’s what I’m talking about. 254FD5A2-A517-43AA-B96C-ACA16EE71445.jpeg02093FE9-BF0F-4DB8-955B-C2B19DB04301.jpeg2B7884A0-3E70-4720-9DD8-FC64EFDFF305.jpeg7901DE2F-723E-4D0F-A5C7-C44B712C646B.jpeg52EE0E6A-315E-46E2-BD5B-0E552215F7EA.jpegE4BC9A83-9726-42BD-9ED5-B80FE178DF08.jpeg286F8C6D-68DA-411C-B1F4-15CC74165699.jpeg

Weekend is here…. Half over, and I feel like I got nothing done. The next stringer isn’t in. Got it wrap with 2 mat and put a layer of mat and roving on the hull. Did grind out a bit of delam up front and covered it with an additional 4x mat and one roving. Couldn’t put down the stringer because it was still wet from wrapping it so late in the day. Had to get more resin in the morning…. And got side tracked with a potential triple axle trailer for the commander that I been thinking about more and more each week. The trailer I looked at was for a 28-30 boat, for a whopping 21k ?!?!? I think it might be too big for the commander. At the end of the day I jumped the gun and pulled the last stringer before installing the 3rd. The hull is solid and still barely flexes without 2 stringers, I still added a few more supports under the hull just in case. I might need a trailer for 6 months come fall.

Triple? Third axle isn't cheap in the long run. Tuff makes a 9000 capacity dual. You will be close but unless you can find a good used trip i’d go dual. I did a spreadsheet for mine and thinking of yours it could crack 9k?

Prawn pellets went up by over 20% price increases are working their way through the supply chain but hopefully more supply comes online in the end, and prices will reduce again but likely not back anywhere close to where they were.

I did contact Tuff trailers, and he also thinks I should go with a smaller trailer, but I like the idea of having a heavier trailer instead of a tandem loaded to max. Another issue for me would be the massive pod and 1200 lbs of motors. This boat will be 30 LOA with a lot of weight behind the transom. Dry weight should stay about 8000lbs. And besides, the trailer is called the commander series LoLD72818A0-EEA3-4286-9145-FEBCDB331141.jpegD95A82E8-57EF-4B76-9BF5-CE8F27A331AA.jpeg36B1BA57-50E9-454A-89A0-F19895CCA316.jpeg

Yeah yeah looks great. I'll trade you my slip while I'm borrowing the trailer.
