1981 Double Eagle gets a second chance

Not a lot to show this week. Just put in the rear drains, now any water in the boat can make its way back to the bilge. Including the anchor locker. I have been applying the Interlux Bilge Coat and will get a picture when thats done. With the stringers and bulkheads in place the boat feels very solid
Hi @DanJ did you use Interlux primer too ? thx

Started the foaming and also ran the drain tube for the anchor locker. This is closed cell foam and I am very impressed with it. Once it is set up you can walk on it. Very sturdy stuff. It will add a great deal of support for the hull. More pictures will come but the boat is a bit of a mess right now. Also just because it was Halloween the other day here is my pumpkin.

Who did you use for your foam ?
I did it myself. I purchased the 600 sq/ft spray foam kit and it worked perfectly. I had contacted several spray foam companies and the cheapest I was quoted was $700 and they could not get to it for 2 months.

Could you elaborate on the foam.
spray?
Two part?
Where to find?
Cost?
Thxs
It is a two part closed cell foam from Lowes. It comes in two tanks that look like propane tanks. The kit comes with hoses and spray gun but I had to buy the fan spray tips separately. I did a test spray of a baseball sized piece let it cure and put it in water for a couple hours. It absorbs absolutely 0 water. So that was good enough for me. I went on and sprayed the boat. I got the kit on sale for just over 600 bucks. I have enough left to spray the sides of the boat it I want.

Nice. Thanks for the info. Sounds like an option to consider over the mix quick pour and expanding type available

I used the mix and pour on my Campion build a few years ago and it was very hard to get even. Also i have water channels under this foam so any water can make its way to the back of the boat. With the pour type it would have been extremely difficult to get that to work.

What did you use for the water channels under the foam? Any pictures of them prior to the foam?

Great work, looking forward to seeing it finished.

Here is a picture. I used 2 inch foam board laminated together the inner piece is trimmed up a couple inches so it creates a channel

I also did the same to the outer stringers. Just did not get a picture.

Making the floor for the storage locker. This is big enough to store my down-riggers in and some extra gear. Pictures show glassing the bottom.

Was a nice day to work on the boat today. Fitting more of the floor as well as put some primer down in the storage area. Next trip up I will bilge coat it and call it good. Once the floor is all fitted I will remove it and fibreglass the underside put it back in and add two layers of 1708 to the top side. My mold release wax arrived yesterday so I can start working on building my storage area door. So much to do and not enough time off.

Floor is all cut out now and fitted. Bilge coat done in the storage area. Now I need some nice weather to glass the bottom of the floor. Most likely will heat up our storage shed and do them inside. Fingers crossed the floor will be in by Christmas.

Weather has not been the best for working on the boat so I took this time to start making the hatch door mold. This is about half way done and still have to make the mold for the gutter/water catch piece.
