1981 Double Eagle gets a second chance

A good day today for the Double Eagle project. I picked up the boat from the shop building the pod. I have to say I love the way it turned out. It is built so I can run twin’s with 25” legs or a single with a 30”. Here are a few pictures. Now I can start moving forward again. Not having my boat to work on for 2 1/2 months really set me back.
if you dont mind me asking, what did they charge you for the whole pod job?

Update for Jan 24th. I had the weekend off so I was able to fiberglass the bottoms of all the floor pieces. This was something that was not done on the floor I ripped out. This will protect the underside from moisture. Approx 3 gal resin used to do this. Process was to roll each piece of the floor with resin. Let that kick for about 2 hours then lay on the fiberglass and wet out. I used laminating or unwaxed resin on the wetting of the floor and waxed resin on the wetting out of the glass that way everything fully cures.

Have not had the best weather for working on the boat so I have been playing with working out sizing for the windows and top. Gives you an Idea of how I work out my ideas. Still not happy with it but its getting closer. The drawing vs the original picture is what it would look like with 18” windows the original Double Eagle has 12” windows. I think 16” will be a better look. I am no artist so forgive the quality.

Will your top be fabricated out of aluminum?

No I am going to use marine plywood and fibreglass it both sides. I want to do as much of this build as I can myself. I am not a welder so fiberglass it is.
A guy in ukee did a DE with a forward leaning house in the same fashion. Looks good!

This one was for sale in Port Alberni this past summer. Mixture of glass and aluminum for the top
Yea my dad had a look at that one. It had twin 140 Suzuki’s on it. Crazy I am going to try and get the proportions a little better. That boat just seemed a little off.

Curious to see how yours turns out! I like the pilothouse idea. I guess I am crazy for going 300 haha although I knew going in its too much power. A 250 was the first choice

I wasn’t going to say it but yea holy **** 300hp. I am either going with twin 90’s or 115’s

I don't have knowledge of them with twins but know a couple guys with podded 206's with 200-250hp. Consensus seems to be 250 is more then enough and gives decent efficiency. I was looking for a 225-250 for a long time but didn't find anything suitable. The 300 is overkill but is about the same weight as the 250 so I guess I get more power for about the same weight. I'll never need it's full potential but will be nice on the low end. Time will tell! I guess I could always step down haha

Dan, this was done by DSS Welding in Duncan, maybe give them a call. It is posted on their Website

I have looked at that picture many times for ideas and planning my boat. Here is a Hourston that I really like the look of and think the builder nailed the proportions. 18’ boat but looks much bigger
