Tackle Shack Sale

Success! I don't know if the Edge browser made the difference, or if Tackle Shack has made changes, or Shopify made changes....but it all worked out just fine! As a bonus I was able to order some Shimano flutter jigs and my shopping cart value was the highest out of all my attempts over the last several days.

I'd best not check their site anymore becuase they seem to be adding more and more products and it's obviously getting expensive to keep buying stuff! Although the prices are great and it's very convenient...
That’s the first positive thing I’ve heard about Microsoft Edge haha

Need butterfly jig recommendations
As some you guys know, I fish butterfly jigs almost exclusively for salmon when I jig. A butterfly jig will outperform any other lure out there when used side by side. I took out one of the fellas and his wife on the forum in 2018 and in a short evening fish he got 5 beauty springs by the green can in Campbell River. We caught 8 total in just a few hours (yes he outfished me!). The #1 go to for me is always the Phantom Squid color. Unfortunately Shimano has discontinued this color and their stock is diminishing fast on them. If you are fishing relatively shallow the 80g and 100g models will work fine and there is still stock on them. If you backtroll and jig deep in the 200+ depths get the 200g. When I'm fishing first light or in the evening I go to the Chartreuse Glow or the Super Glow (which isn't on the site yet). For a natural presentation especially when the bait is closer to the surface grab those Blue Sardine jigs in 80-130 grams. I usually fish in the 80-150' range so my most common size is 130g. I also add a little bling to them which I don't share with many :). These little glow or UV dots work, believe me. There is a flat spot on the back of the jig that I put a glow or UV dot on it and it adds to the catch rate. I get them here: https://www.tlspin.com/category-s/146.htm

Its pretty critical when fishing butterfly jigs that you do two things. NEVER use a clasp to attach the jig to your line and NEVER tie it direct to braid as you will get nothing but hangups. Use still fluorocarbon leader in the 50lb class. You need that line pushing the jig away from the braid and it'll allow it to use its action properly. The most simple way is to tie a swivel to your braid and then the fluor to that. If you are proficient and line to line knots they work great too. I've switched all my knots to the PR Knot and use a Shimano bobbin winder. Use a proper rod that can 'flick' the jig, not a mooching rod if you can. Watch your line all the time, many of the hits come on the drop so if you aren't paying attention you'll miss fish for sure. If you have decent electronics and are targeting them as specific depths, use Depth Hunter metered line so you know where your jig is at all times.

Sorry that was a bit long winded.

Tight lines,

WW

@Waterwolf2230 , you got me into this jigging thing. I like it alot.
Question as to the assist hooks. Looking at the picture above, looks like it is starting to get chewed up.
Do you tie your own or purchase tied up rigs?

I am thinking of going ling fishing this weekend, so they might get really chewed up!

They do last quite a while but I have a roll of assist line that I bought in the US from Saltywater Tackle. I think its 250lb test. When it starts to fray too much I replace it as the hooks are very expensive and super high quality. I've never seen assist line for sale in Canada...the knot is dead simple too.

Every day there's more stuff on the Tackle Shack shopify site. Today there's a bunch more jigs, like these Lucanus Jigs. Hey @Waterwolf2230 how do you fish these jigs?

They are really simple to fish. I have a spot closer to the red can in Campbell River that we were dropping for grey cod in 315' of water and both me and my friend caught 24 and 26lb springs on them lol. They have neat action with the tentacle and the eyes glow. Only thing I haven't caught on them is halibut. The sink super fast too, you don't have to jig them much, its more moving it up and down like a squid swimming. I think the Tackle Shack has the largest selection of jigs on the west coast...definitely more to come.

Aside from fishing, this could be the best alternative. Tying up new Lures! Thanks Tackle Shack for the speedy shipping
