Baystar Hydraulic steering

Question ?
I have a 20 ft Trophy Pro Walkaround that has manual steering. Powered by a 135 merc Optimax.
I want to install the Baystar Hydraulic steering unit. Has anyone out there ever taken on this job and if so were you happy with the unit?
There is a video on u-.tube showing the installation and it looks straight forward. Any feedback would be great.

very easy and straighforward installation. But you want a SEASTAR unit not baystar

Teleflex

just did it awhile ago on a 23' Crestliner with a 225 Blackmax ---yes use the Seastar ---my tip would be when you pull your old stuff out of the helm tie and tape a pull string on the cable then pull it back towards motor , then tie and tape string on your new hydraulic lines going back
--makes it easier to get around corners and the routing is already done so you don't have to guess.
It took me about 4-5 hours------the best thing i have done to my boat --makes a huge difference

best thing I have done on my trophy next to trim tabs, easy to do, get a buddy to help bleed it, its much easier. get the sea star

There is a trick to bleeding those units, it is an easy one person job. Simply attach a clear plastic hose to both bleeders. Open bleeders, turn steering wheel and keep topping up reservoir until air bubbles stop. Turn wheel the other direction and watch for air bubbles.. done. All air returns to helm.

Would that work with double helm twin motor? I have an air bubble in mine and had no success getting it out. There is a cylinder on each motor.

I will try your way, I will do both cyl at the same time or one at a time? My boat is in my shop at Terrace and I will not be able to try this until June. I will feed back as soon as I try this.

bleeding

when I did mine I had a friend turn the wheel as per directions--------------but I bled it into a clean glass bottle and had the fill bottle at the helm setup like a hospital IV drip then I just kept adding the bled fluid back to the IV drip setup till I was satisfied I had no air in lines----------works great -----------hydraulic steering is a dream come true

When I repowered a couple years ago I added hydraulic steering, it may seem like overkill on a podded 17.5 lifetimer but it's so effortless to steer now. Well worth it.

It's nice to be able to let go of the steering wheel on long trips...no more torque steer. You can go to the cooler without the boat going south.
