We fished Saturday at the waterfront, it was definitely slow. Hit 1 dogfish and managed to land a 20lb spring in 5hrs. No other hits.
Spring was caught on Skinny G spoon on a deep tack off the green can buoy.
My 1st time fishing the waterfront as a long time Sooke guy and I can't say I'd ever choose to go back. Wasn't a fan of the non stop harbour traffic.
Cheers

You should see it on the last day of a long weekend when all the Yankee yachts are heading home. Good times!! Lol

Fished 530am to 1pm lost two of which one was decent probably a teener by green bouy, released two tiny guys, kept one at 7lbs. Lots of bait by flagpole at beacon hill, but all our hits came at 70 feet in esquimalt. Gforce no bananna was the later hot lure, ancho on betzy with bullet green and chrome was the hottest combo

Did a long troll from the Chinese cemetery to the break wall early afternoon for the tide change.
Lots of bait( firecracker herring) top and bottom between Clover and Brotchie.
No bites.
I've seen some scratchy years, but I think this is the worst.

A dozen or so boats at the waterfront today, didn't see any nets out.A few shakers, and that's an improvement. With all the bait that's out there you'd think there would be more fish.

Fellas, I was reading archived forums from 2015 and I saw the displeasure with the art show that closed our launch for 3 days last year (September 18th, 19th, and 20th.) In preparation for this event during the season this year, I was wondering if any members who launch off the Esquimalt Anglers launch would have an interest in sending some letters, making some phone calls, and informing our counselors, MLA's, mayors etc that we disagree with any launch closure in an attempt to keep it open this September. I believe the dates of the art show this year are 16th, 17th, and 18thof September. Lets do what we can to try and keep it open so we don't miss out on any fishing opportunities!

On another note, has there been any action off the waterfront lately?

Would not hurt as far as we know it's back on , only good thing it's a lousy tide for HALLYS , we have a EXEC MEETING tues hopefully we will find more out , fishing very quiet like everywhere else , if nothing improves fish wise may look at our derby in August, the odd yrs canceled , to to lack of fish , will keep you in the loop

Went out with a friend at 10:30, caught a 21lber near Coyote Bank at 13:00; and a rockfish, 2 lingcods 76cm&83cm on the way back to Oak Bay, several huge dungeness crabs with two traps pulled up.
It's a very nice day today, no wind, flat tide.

I bet very few people know that the halibut-bone soup is somewhat like a natural Viagra...
I usually add only salt, two pieces of myrcia leaves, a little bit chicken powder and several ginger slices when stewing the bones, make sure the soup turns to white, like milk color. Pour a little bit white pepper powder when serving.
the soup won't have strong effect but it really worked good for me and my friend.
If someone would like to try, please let me know if it really worked for you as well, thanks.

Slow fishing has its benefits. For example I can sleep in and drag my butt to the ramp at 9:00am and still get prime parking.

There was a bit of a bite on when I first got out as I hit two in the first hour both around 10lbs. Released the first and bonked the second. Not great but I'll take it. Wish I got out an hour earlier.

the seals at Fleming were leaping up on the log booms at the dock and had a really good wrestle over my little fish scraps. catch them some dinner guys.

not much happening in Oak Bay this morning , fished 6 to 11 , started in the gap , pounded the flats. one bite 3 pound spring sent back.

Still scratchy at the waterfront. Saw a couple 20's at the dock but nothing to write home about. It's not a lost cause but... It's certainly not like last August.... Yet!
