put in a shift yesterday 5am to 1030am on the flats . not a sniff. Wonder what is killing these seabirds in our area? They eat sandlance

Gave Constance a go yesterday afternoon. Jellies and general snot fouling everything......constantly checking gear and even in 5 minutes it was fouled......plugs,spoons, bait everything. I won't be fishing that bank for a bit. In retrospect maybe jigging would have been less annoying than cleaning crap off down rigger and main lines. Nice day for a boat ride, and hopefully the traps will have some keepers.

Are they rhino auklets?,mostly fish eaters. Or blue foot Cassin's? Zooplankton eaters.. the latter have been washing ashore for a couple years emaciated, in high numbers.

I saw a dead Rhino Auklet floating by near Albert Head this morning. I fished the waterfront for a few hours and only saw 1 runt spring caught. We pulled up and dropped the pick at Albert. Once the Dogs smelled the boat, they didn't stop. Nice morning on the water.

Fished the waterfront today as well, saw two fish caught. One was a nice teener and the other was a small one that I saw at the cleaning table that looked like a pink to me. Marked some bait and a few fish, calm day on the waterfront except for the ignorant whale boat that wanted to swamp all at the breakwater. Will try again tomorrow hopefully with a better report.

I fished Oak Bay every day this past week and got zilch. did not even see a fish caught. trolled, jigged even tried some casting in the usual July hot spots.

Wow , first time I have never fished a summer weekend in 5 years! hopefully things will greatly improve!
Chero , if a whaleboat wakes you out call the company or Transport Canada. That said , most of the boats throw off a much bigger wake at 10 knots than they do at 20 , most captains realize this and try to minimize wake through speed adjustment.
The birds that are dying are Rhinoceros Aucklets ( one of the black birds that start the baitballs) . It is VERY concerning that they are dying in numbers in our area. About 50 have been collected on the Cook st waterfront and a few whalewatchers have spotted large groups of dead birds out in the juan de fuca. They feed on the same things that Chinook do.
I will start a new thread about this.

6:30 until 11:30 at breakwater and area today. No love for me. Saw one what looked like a pink caught, nothing else with a good number of boats out in the pack.

That is all.

Fished out front again today in a derby 2 fish weighted in at 11 and 3.5 pounds respectively out of 2 dozen boats. Never saw a net out today. Very little bait or fish showing from mccallly pt thru to the breakwater. Time to go west again there seems to be a few of decent size being caught even a coho would put a smile on my face.

Hit waterfront for a couple hours today with my daughter. Picked up at mid teener at the break wall. Crab traps emptied. Only hit of the trip. Glad to get her. Wild, stomach empty.

put in a short midday shift on the flats. Saw a few fish being played , all small 3 to 5 lbs. released two of the same. Its starting to feel fishy though...

First fish of the summer today just outside the green can. About 185cm and 16-17 lbs or so. Had two other hits in about 4 hours of fishing and saw two smaller fish caught but still very very quiet for the 15 or so boats ou there. Stomach was empty and the rhino ocelots in the area looked hungry and lethargic. I could have picked some of those birds up with my bare hands they hardly had the energy to get out of the way of my slow moving boat.
