Help Finding a Grady 282

Nice that it looks like it only has 500 hours on the hull and some recent maintenance. The little coffin berth window is nice.

10k price drop shows motivation to make a deal. If you low ball at least you can find out his bottom line.
That's a beauty. I will add the 285 to the search. That one is starting to get pricey. Still would need a trailer. I can't see them letting it go for much less. Can't hurt to ask though.
It’s been for sale all spring maybe even posted in the winter. It was on Craigslist as well but I can’t find the add anymore.

This would be my number one choice in this size, class and vintage but if I am realistic with my budget I am going to ideally end up with a 255 Conquest.

They seem to be very similar in price if it’s old power but there is a 255 with new Suzukis and a Minn Kota salt water trolling motor with lithium batteries for sale in Florida for 70k if I remember correctly . It’s a steal.

Yes it does, they pretty much just stretched from the helm forward. I think @Unreel mentioned back when he looked at a 2870 that the actual deck space is absolutely identical to the 2470.
Thats not correct. The beam on the 2870 is much bigger than the 2470. The deck feels HUGE on the 2870.

I believe a 285 is a bit hungrier than the 282. There's no chance of seeing close to 2mpgs (you can with a light 2870 and close with a 282). One of my guests brings one up. 250 verados around 1.5mpg (2015 vintage with pilot house) when things are good. Part of that is the 2015ish verados. It'd do better with the current larger displacement 250s and eco enertia.
I’m very happy to get 1.5 mpg on mine.

And I bet you are smiling ear to ear- weeks, if not months that you run the boat between the fill-ups. If people are worried about fuel economy, they better be planning 100-mile days, because it will cost $500, based on my calculation, split between 3 friends, it is pretty cheap compared to the total cost of boat ownership.

On the weekend, I ran close to 50 miles, and I have a more affordable boat, but the experience of sleeping overnight on the hook, bbqing prawns, catching a cod and BS with another forum member was priceless. An Airbnb bachelor pad with that view would have cost me $500 a night, and it wouldn't have had the view.

PS the seating for 3-4 under cover is tough to beat on the 285. Some of the GW with 2 seats under cover blow me away.

Exactly, we ran from Schooner Cove to Toba a couple of weeks back. Weather wasn’t the greatest, but we bonked 4 beautiful springs spent the night comfortably. Ran back. Burned 130 gallons. Cheap really.
I would hope that if anyone is going to spend 150K plus on a boat, fuel costs would be the least of their worries.
The only thing that pisses me off when I fuel up is how long it takes! 😂 #spg that is smiles per gallon

With twin 250 zukis? I wouldn't be happy with that in good conditions on a 2870 but maybe you like speed more than I! I know a couple 2000 vintage 2870 charter boats (bottom paint) that get real tight to 2mpgs at 28mph. Good prop selection is key.

Depends on the lense I guess. When you run them as charter boats fuel economy matters. If it didn't I'd be getting a 330 shipped up asap and repowering. That would be a sweet rig, but I don't want to choke down the .8-. 9 mpg. Cost gets passed down so a difference of .3mpg in a 285 just means another red bill to every trip. A 330 would add a couple hundred to the average day (Some folks would be happy to pay it).

I agree with you for the most part Kael. Fuel is the one thing on a boat you only pay for when you're using it. Most folks don't have the pleasure of putting 20-30k through their power every season.

Yikes. Running offshore for Hali or to a bank for salmon as well is not a cheap game, not to mention the deprecation on the engines with todays pricing. I guess even the burn difference between a 232 and a 282 would be significant over a season of guiding. I always promote charters in my videos cause it is good value compared to owning a big boat. I do drool over the 10% better fuel mileage, higher cruise and 50 extra HP a bigger new engine reportedly does on my hull, but just the tax bill for repowering would take me a couple years to make up.

Twin 300 zuks. I run at 28 to 30 mph, and anywhere from 18 to 20 gallons an hr. The are so torquey that the cavitation is so bad that you can get up on plane with more then a 17 pitch prop. Different thread. Cool thing is I’m up on plane doing 30 or 40 mph in less than 3 seconds depending on mood.

Spoke with the guy this morning. Seems legit. See where it goes. If the boat is clean it's a good deal. Throw some newer power on and never look back.
Just one photo kinda makes you wonder. It looks clean from that one photo tho. With 06 motors its just a matter of time before they need replacement. Priced accordingly.

Exhausts done or scoped for corrosion? I think the issue may have been fixed for that year and being on a trailer could be a good sign of condition. Could he do a FaceTime walk around with you? I’ve done that for a friend who was hot to trot on a big boat and I saved him from a nightmare. Be nice if he can save you the trip, I’ve rolled south with big bank drafts a couple of times only to come home with them.

It might be a logistic nightmare but if you are going to repower and already have engines lined up you might be able to sell the Yamis down there and separate the engines from the boat and get separate bill of sales. CBSA isn’t generous when you import a board but if you can sell the motors and controls and you might not have to pay 12% on them it can help keep your total cost down. I would have done that with my trailer, instead of paying taxes on it, dumping money into it and buying a new trailer, my original engines from 07 Hondas are still running strong but have 1200 hours on them.

Good luck!

Apparently exhaust was done. Got a bunch of pics. Needs new cushions and one eisenglass panel. Otherwise might be ok. He claims the lower unit was vandalized when he got back to the boat today on one of the motors. Thinks someone tried to steal it. Seems odd. Is that a major issue or just cosmetic? I don't think that part really seals, but I could be wrong. I've reached out to a yamaha dealer. Waiting for a call back.
