Anyone been up to Winter Harbour or Port alice areas lately. I'm heading up there next week and would like any information on what's hot and what's not.

was up there 2 weeks ago, fishing 8 miles off kains limited on chinooks, biggest 43, purple haze or j-79 hootchies 180-225 feet. buddy went up last weekend limited with 8 over 30 pounds biggest 51, all on biggest size green/white apexs 35 feet inshore. also a 71 caught on that same rig last week as well. coho was slow for some reason.

Thanks for the up date Eagle Eyes!I guess Chinooks inside Kains Island up the channel is closed as of Aug 1st but Cohos are open.
Does anyone know how bad the fog has been lately?

Thanks for the info. CS!
I'm familiar with bot Grant Bay and Kains but I'm unsure of how far out 50 fathom patch is from either spot. Would you be able to approximate the ground distance so I can set my GPS?

Hey EagleEyes did anyone get apicture of that 71Iber or is it just here say. thanks snowwhite

i dont know for sure but my buddy who i went with (his uncle runs dicks last resort, where we stayed- top notch place) called me that day to tell me how he had done and then mentioned that a guest at the resort had caught that slab, unfortunately i havent spoken since so i have no specifics. and yes apparently it was a chinook.

Thanks EagleEyes we are hereing about that fish down here at Painters Lodge wow what a hog. thanks Snowwhite

Can't confirm the 71 lb, but there was a 68 caught at the Nootka Island Light. The fish was weighed in a Tyee Marine in Campbell River. Lots of photos.

also talked to my buddy who was there last weekend, fishing a couple miles off kains- results- 20 chinooks from 25-45 pounds most in the low 30's. talk about incredible fishing. he also says to have lost one estimated in the 60's, apparently it wouldnt fit in the net.<img src=icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

Still up at Port Alice for a couple more days. Fishing has been a little slow inside but has been fantastic outside off of Kains and Grant Bay. Yesterday at low slack was just wild, one triple header, just Koho's but big northerns the biggest was 14.5. Landed some nice Chinooks, 21, 25.5, 27.5 and 32 lbs. Tried jigging for about 45 minutes and landed a Ling 18 lbs and a 71 lb Hali both on circle hooks tipped with Octopus. Some nice Yellow Eye taken as well.
Haven't been able to get out today, to rough and windy for our small boat. May try after supper if it calms down.

Thanks to all for helping me out with the information provided.

Tight Lines......

We were about 3 miles straight out from the lighthouse in about 225 ft. It was a bit slow, only 1 Halibut but we had lots of hits and 3 Ling, 4 Yellow Eye and a couple of China Rocks.

Not yet Peter, I'm out here with some buddies. We were using a 2005, 28 ft Harbourcraft, just a beautiful boat, I'll send you some pictures if it's OK.
3 of the guys had to return to Alberta this morning so we're down to a 19 ft Crestliner with a 50 hp so we'll need to pick the water conditions before going out again.
It's been a great holiday, I can't wait to get the new boat out here. Seems to be Explorer country. Just getting ready to head over to another guys place for a "POP" who also owns a 2005, 26 ft Explorer Sports Utility, sweet boat.....
