What Did You Do To Your Boat This Week?

Installed a stupid new fridge. It took three months to get. It had to travel from the mainland to the island and then back. It cost $400 per cubic foot. It's 4.5 cubic feet. I feel dead inside.
But frosty cool dead is the best kind of dead.

Loving the new rear helm HDS 12 Live unit and the new TM185HW transducer. Picks up so many more targets and much better bottom definition than my last transducer. Out playing around with it putting different size shims in behind it to get just the right angle helped a lot and working very well now. It helped put us on quite a few Springs and Lings the other day. The screen on the newer Live version is also noticeably a lot better to see in the bright sun than my other older gen 2 version screen.

My boat had a busy week. After catching some sockeyes in Alberni we carried on to the road closure on the way to Ukee for a nap. Everything was fine, but when I arrived at the launch, the starboard trailer tire was rubbing since the wheel was tilted inward quite bit. I launched and noticed in the mirror that the wheel would roll more upright when moving then lean over when stopped.
Anyway, I'd like to give a big shout out to Larsen Diesel in Ucluelet for squeezing me in on a Friday and doing a great job rewelding and replacing some pieces and at a very reasonable cost.
The lesson in the story is despite the incredible power of the 5.0 Coyote motor, next time I will slow down and use the pullouts for others to pass during the stretch between the closure and the travel info building since some parts of the highway are like a mogul field. She bounced and came down hard on one of those bumps. I might also run the tires a bit under inflated.
Then the boat caught some chinooks, lings, rockfish, a sole, and a halibut, so I left her there in storage till next time.
Seems like every year I do the gravel road trips with my boat I take more and more spare parts and tools with me and more spare tires on rims. Last year I took two spares and used them both. Ya it's tempting to go faster than we should be. Portable welder and genny might have to be added to the list after seeing your picture :)

I just picked it up from SG Power. They had it for a couple of days:

-20 hour main servicing
-Kicker servicing
-put on a temporary aluminum prop while waiting on my order on a new shiny one. The previous one I had was slipping due to a faulty rubber insert which was affecting performance. I’ll be interested is seeing the performance on a 19p aluminum vs 19p stainless.

The big job:

- they pulled the fuel tank to help me figure out a recent water in hull issue. Drains from the fish locker were clogged. They installed a new inspection hatch in and sealed it all up. A very tidy job!

I replaced my air filter today which had fallen off and landed in the steering controls crushing it and subsequently breaking the tie bar that goes to the steering guage. Fixed that. While the filter was off, I noticed water dripping in from the steering fork. Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip. Like that. The boat is slowly sinking now. Didn't manage to get to the actual job of replacing the raw water pump that's no longer working.

For sale - two volvo diesel engines with almost new drives.

IOs are the bestest.

got out for a fish n’ crab adventure with my dad today.
Boat did well is some lumpy stuff. I did have a bit of calm water to go WOT and the 19 pitch aluminum got me up to 6200 rpm vs my 19 pitch stainless one at 5800, but the stainless still gets me 5 more MPH.

I was coming back with my boat from the shop yesterday to pick up my daughter from daycare, and decided it was a great time for her to see her first ice cream truck.
I didn’t want her to eat it in the truck so we climbed in the back of the boat and shared an Oreo ice cream sandwich.

Well for the last month I’ve been repairing my fiberglass hull “screw up” pun intended.

drilled out the hole to 5/8” let the area dry for 3 weeks with 3 - 4 of those days over 45c…
Was able to get the section dry, sanded down and tapered around the hole. Epoxied and filled with glazing putty 3 coats, then re gel-coated the area today in 35 deg heat! Finally it’s ready for another shake down run.

Sunday - fished FC humps, nada...moved to Little Q, caught, played, landed...and released  2 beautiful 90cm springs along w/ 2 at-the-boat-releases of 2 more same-sized.

Monday-ran a fresh run of wire from house battery up to the rat's nest that Striper put on the back side of the helm. Moved wires from original Buss bar to a new Blue Sea that is awesome. Moved a Lowrance head unit from its helm location (boat came with a 12 and a 9 :)) to just under the hardtop at the back; ran an longer ethernet cable from the 12to the 9 to tie them together.

Tuesday-sat in the fish deck imaging how to better create usable tackle storage options.

I decided to try to cut, polish and wax the boat during my last week off, definitely a bit of work but learned a lot from Drake’s detailing on YouTube before starting. Got some shine back out of the 20 year old gel coat and had to go over areas multiple times to remove the oxidation and bring back the shine. May tackle again next season with some more aggressive compound on some areas to remove scratches.

After my aggressive cleaning a few backs I'm in dire need of this. Anyone ever tried those quick polish sprays?
