What are they fishing?

Taken the ferry this morning from Nanaimo to horseshoe bay. They had to be 8 sports boats basically fishing right in the middle of the straight. We weren't close enough to see if they were trolling. They seemed to be boats coming from both the island and Vancouver. Any guess to what they would be targeting?

Likely Chinook. Lots of folks fish the middle for the 'transient' fish this time of year.

If you were talking out south/southwest of Bowen.....that is the Hump and they are fishing springs. I am sure there are boats working various areas between the Hump and Entrance/Fingers. But ya....the Hump runs for quite a ways and if just looking from a ferry you'd be wondering WTF they were doing out there.
