Vanguard with Merc 850

Is this boat worth doing anything with? Everything works, but the transom and floor are soft and need to be replaced. I'm always worried the transom is going to fail and leave us swimming back to shore.

Need something we can trust not to leave us stranded. Also I believe the boat is designed for a lake and not cruising the ocean, which is our main activity.

Thoughts and guidance greatly appreciated. Sell it? Would would we list it for? Is it even worth anything? What should we do with it?

In my opinion unless you’re capable of doing the work yourself it’s not worth the hassle especially since you plan on spending majority of your time in the ocean that’s a huge liability it would cost thousands to have a shop do the work for you… to be honest it’s not worth much maybe $500+- if you’re lucky someone will pick it up as a project you are much better off getting a 16-18’ hourston, double eagle, arima, aluminum ect if it’s in the budget and definitely spend the money to have a survey done so there’s no worries about the structural integrity of the hull. Good luck keep us posted.

$10k will definitely get you into a good, reliable starter setup if you shop around. I’d look at a 16’ Smoker Craft, Lifetimer, Double Eagle, Hourston, or Arima. There are other brands to look out for but those I think are a good start. Check out the used boats thread, I always post starter boats on there when I find good deals.
