We are planning a trip to Renfrew on Saturday. High tide is at 1:36 pm. What time could we make it out the river with a 20' boat and what would be the best time to return. Thanks for the info, its been a while since we've been there.

It's a 2.7ft tide at 7:40. The rule of thumb I was told for bigger boats is 3' and you're fine...so yours is iffy right at low tide. I'd guess you're pretty safe an hour on either side of it though. [and if any of the pros know different, please correct me]

Be careful of the channel if you don't know it! Best to follow someone out if you're not sure.

Low tide later isn't until 8pm, so unless you're fishing til dark, should be fine coming in.

Tide charts I know of here: http://www.fishingportrenfrew.ca/weather.html
First link give hour by hour estimate at bottom of page.

3 ft is the general rule and this year has been better than some( the gravel bars move a little from year to year) I find it easier going out on the ebb because you get "flushed" out and only need enough power to stay in the deep parts of the river.
