I've used heat like this many times to break rusted bolts and other hardware. Heating up the outer metal faster than the bolt will cause expansion and breaks the rust seal making the bolt easier to turn out. I doubt the wax has anything to do with it at all. I'd suspect it's the thermal expansion from the torch thats doing the work. Im sure it can't hurt but I think the wax is getting too much credit
