Orca sightings

Lets help DFO and let them know if we see any Orcas while we are on the water.
We fish Renfrew today and did not see any!!
How about the Sidney, Oak Bay and Sooke guys??
Time, how many and location and Whale Watchers if any.

As if it matters...all that matters for DFO is has a whale ever been spotted there and do loud ENGO groups want that area closed...yes to both it must be protected no matter how non-sensical.

The only Orcas DFO needs to see to make a decision, are the inflatable ones the same old group show up with at every protest

Look at the sh*t show of closures that has happened in Area 18 this year and there is not one confirmed sighting of SRKW in the inside waters. A No-Go Zone that is not being enforced. Literally thousands of rec boats have transited through it since the 1st of June. A Orca santuary that has not had one SRKW in it this year. Another non science based farce imposed on this area. All this area requires is an Avoidance Zone when, and if, any Orcas actually appear. This is easy to do because the fleet of whale watchers that is hounding them can be seen a mile or more away. Obviously a much too logical and common sense solution for DFO to digest... Doesn't fit their political agenda!

Very well said and BANG ON in your Statement.......
Doesnt fit their Political Agenda.
DFO and Libs......wow what a combo.
The blind leading the blind......or untruthful.
Our Salmons future continues to spin out of control.
Fish farms Whale Chase Boats FNs nets clear across the Rivers with zero accountabilty or sustainability.
All is Good .
Sunny Ways .......lets have a sing a long.
Spineless leadership across the entire bunch.

Fished Renfrew yesterday with good success with Springs. (surprised to see how few boats were on the water)
Covered a large area and did not see any Orcas.
No surprise, as I have never seen an Orca in that area in the years I have fished there.
Will watch this thread with interest to see how many sightings are reported this season and where they are.
Anybody see any off Sidney, Victoria or Sooke yesterday?

A buddy is demanding the data from DFO that shows why 18 is "no fish" habitat - their own website revealed they have ZERO (0, nada, zip) peer reviewed studies that show that SRKW feed in the area. In fact, the one peer reviewed study by Dr. Ford showed 0 feeding events in 18 in over 1000 sightings in a 10 year period.

It's time for DFO to release the data and if they don't have the data to support their moves, reverse them ASAP.

I think it was just the preferred path of least resistance an easy area to commence the slow march forward of the closures. Any science used if all was questionable as was common sense. This way DFO can claim it’s taking action and the ENGO’s can tout their progress made at fund raisers.

It won’t be long before the ENGOs will shift target to expand the closures based on the fact that problem still isn’t completely solved. Rather than admitting it was a stupid ineffective move, they’ll demand further closures and who will argue with them? The general public will simply hear “We tried with closures close to the terminal area, but it’s not enough, we need to expand further along the migration route” and that will make sense to them. Those who are already in the closed areas will eventually lose interest and adjust to little or no fishing and will move on. Every year there will be less resistance and more acceptance! The precedent has been set!
Yikes I’m even bumming myself out!
