Garmin Fantom 18 Radar who’s got one

I have the garmin 942xs with the fantom 18 radar. Probably one of the best setups going, I am upgrading to an 8610xsv for a little bigger screen but the chart overlay works awesome, except if you have lots of tracks in one area. I normally run chart plotter on one half and radar on the other half. The fantom will pick up pieces of wood, seagulls, heli’s, water planes, and even your own wake on super high definition I keep my turned down a little and ran around and played with it during the day for a while first. The fantom also has dual range so in heavy fog I use one zoomed in for sticks and deadheads, and one zoomed out for boats etc... and then chartplotter.
Have a look at the 1042 or even 1242xsv. They might be less than the 8610. Not sure the feature differences

I had a look at both and the 12 is a bit big and I believe the 1042xsv only comes in button form. And the 8610 has a HDMI in and out and a higher screen which where some key features for me, don’t get me wrong I love the 10 and 12 I’ve used both but like the 8600 series that much better

FYI Best price I could find any where for the phantom radar was at poco marine
2500 before tax
Garmin Gpsmap 1042xsv 1700 with out transducer but with the built in maps
B175 transducer was 1270 free shipping I believe too

Those are great prices, I would jump on that normally the phantom is 2699 before tax.

I have the Fantom and the 1242xsv. Works great. Chart overlay works good too but I find it a bit confusing sometimes and prefer to run radar seperately on my 942 or iPad. I find the colour coding on the radar blips very useful. If the blip is red it’s a danger and on possible collision course. If blue it’s not. Let’s you quickly determine which targets to watch.
By default the radar and plotter have a lot of features turned on. I like to turn off and simplify the screen so I can see chart and radar targets easier.
Interested if you know the difference between the 1242xsv and the 1243sxv ? And your opinion on the 1242xsv ? Doing a new install and can get a good price on the 1242...Thanks

The 1242xsv plus (I assume you mean the touchscreen one) is a great unit, if you could get a good deal on it I’d go with that. The only major difference on the 1243xsv is the layout of the face the power button has a new location as well as the SD card slot and it looks and feels the same as the 8600 series. Also has a bit better programming in it, but they both include charts and everything like that. Oh and the 1243xsv has a spot for micro USB input
first 2 pics of 1243xsv and second of 1242xsv plus

Have to buy a chip. Belive its garmin bluechart g2 vision
But you can make routes and way points on a navionics app and import them to your gps or active captain app very easily
99% of the garmin plotters that can have charts come with them the blue chart g3 vision is the optional chart for mariners eye 3D and fish eye 3D and there is two different options there as well. One covers van isle and around the other covers the whole coast

1243 is new version of the 1242. Has a smaller thinner bezel and better IPS display witch gives your better viewing angles. Might mean you can find a better price on the older 1242.

Nothing but good things to say about the 1242xsv. Very easy to use and update. Touch is a game changer and allows you to zoom in and out seamlessly. The tide and current charts are really good too.
