ECVI Herring 2014......

It's early yet to push the panic button.
I don't like fishing the herring hard by a long shot but we still need a few more days to see what happens.
Area 14 is the last of the herring holdouts on the BC coast.
We watch this area and DFO knows our thoughts on this matter.
Problem is we are up against the weight of a ton of money.
We all know that money seems to buy out any good common sense.
Andrew P ... PM incoming...

GLG, you are a popular guy; inbox full! I have some info for you on sample taking for the DNA study!

cleaning up the PM inbox.... Didn't make it out and I'm swamped in paperwork.

Am I missing something here? Last year herring were spawning around FC Marina on march 4th.

I've been going down to the marina fairly consistently the last little while. No "milky" water......no nothing, except the commercial boats showing up and offloading catch from someplace.

Supposedly it went great guns up around Comox/ Hornby for quite awhile.....

They don't always spawn in the same areas.

Thats right.. somewhere I have a CD that shows the location of spawns over the last 20 years. I will see if I can find it. Andrew, ask DFO for a copy-- it was made by them and I am sure they still exist.

It looks like there are large ribbons of white in the water out from shore in North Nanaimo. I can see a lot of Sealion and bird activity going on right now from my deck.
