Commander 26 Re Build

Really enjoying the thread and the workmanship, she’s going to be a well rebuilt vessel for sure.
I do have a question in regards to the deck supports as they look as though the wood is exposed and in need of some glass? Could be the pic or my ignorance but thought I would ask. Again, great job on the resto

Those supports I just left to hold the deck up while she was being gutted. Both sides will be cut out hopefully soon and new pieces put in altered a bit so we can have a extended berth on one side. Those posts are pretty much the connections from the wall and v berth

Here’s the late report from yesterday, had a root canal done in the morning yesterday and by the evening I was done. Hopefully I can get back to my 14 hour days now and get some real work done! Here’s some pics of the other sideD34520E0-1EE6-42E2-B42A-52B3449E9E7C.jpeg4FBE1F95-AC40-49E4-8373-0ED1EAB123A6.jpegA2914D11-77B6-46EA-AAF1-71132C924546.jpegFDEFB324-1100-4EDD-8E07-700CEB4DD4D5.jpegB12E65F0-1390-4D3E-AADA-CB7AA2EDA0AE.jpeg

Getting nasty, found the first small blister today. Man, some of these pics are starting to look like a planet with craters. Here’s a few pics! The pod is also ready for me to weld on a 5” rake on the bottom.1F04F069-11E3-4635-86D4-AE356807E2B4.jpeg66335F33-D7A3-4D04-A590-971095399224.jpeg764273EE-3E5B-496C-8A6D-2EB5F4C4E33E.jpeg1BB4156B-AE6D-4FAD-9CFA-3F4A6D0E81F8.jpeg1855823A-F39B-4836-B534-C1ECA600E471.jpeg294B34C3-378A-4BD7-ADC2-091F8F3B8E09.jpeg1D9BADDE-E027-4CB8-9C7A-5A381AFB89D1.jpeg

Extended berth is new design? Not on a traditional commander. So it could sleep 4 with the table down?

Every time I do my bottom paint I notice my boat also has these craters - is it just the salt eating away at the hull?

It’s osmosis blistering. Gel goat will fail over time have to sand them out and then fair with epoxy based compound and then epoxy barrier coat like interprotect and then re bottom paint.
So far we been talking about using a vinyl eater resin, cabosil, gel coat paste to fill in the voids after burring the craters out a bit, then a gel coat. After that we can use a epoxy barrier coat and bottom paint or Ron really wants to try a clear bottom paint which I’m going to look into more. Curious to why so many people lean towards epoxy based, it just sticks and lays so much longer?

Epoxy will outlast you don’t do it twice trying to mix products adding fillers etc. Interlux makes a fairing compound called watertite designed for this then their barrier coat interprotect and then a good bottom paint like micron csc. There are other manufacturers with similar systems but thats the one i am familiar with. These systems are designed to work together and have proven results. mix/match is a gamble imo don’t know how each step will react to the next or if you add too much/little of each thing you can have issues like shrinkage or crazing. Not worth for me I don’t see the point..

Cleaned the commander up a bit today and getting ready for next week, inside looks great and Will start on the front this week. My fuel tank should be in this week and that’s the last thing holding me back to lay the floor. I’m done with the blaster for now, still have a couple feet left. Got the fuel tank in today and set it down with the water tank. The fuel tank is a beauty! Thank you Pierre at PoCo marine, you did a fabulous job! Just under 3/16 all around…. She is solid, not flexing at all when I step on her. Welds are gorgeous!!!
The stringers are a bit fatter now and have less room for foam on the sides but should seal up real nice. All in all looks pretty level. Starting to cut and place the front, getting ready for the floor.CF030935-1A0D-4E58-A1A3-C1D4E462543E.jpeg8BCD7F50-F456-4417-9565-9AF3BBB04DEA.jpeg4B812EEF-481F-4840-B4FD-98C6B02C94BA.jpegDCBCD8B5-52AA-40C2-B627-1FB9499A5035.jpeg585DD663-2A9C-4FFB-93B0-B71BB27FDA11.jpegD9F64ED7-B8BD-431D-AEEE-1D1D0BBBAEE1.jpeg8BA5A762-57F4-455B-B5B9-56EF0940F0D4.jpeg56F62447-D0A5-4494-B30F-72B00157AD1C.jpeg94E1763F-A51E-453C-85EA-009A35D90AD2.jpeg8001AE5B-B5F3-4889-B787-46880394B48D.jpeg

I gotta tell you that I did a similar build as you and that spray foam caused my tank to rot out in 9 years due to condensation.

Just sharing my experience

The original foam appeared super dry except for the fuel on the bottem. I figured this set up lasted this long and is good to build it again the same way.
However I do have way smaller gaps now and there might be something better to secure the tank with.

Wow :(
Sorry to hear about your tank, thanks for sharing, I’m always open to any advice from previous experiences you guys had, And hopefully avoid a few mistakes !
