Canucks 2021 Season

I would say the guy's that are on their last year of a contract have something to play for. The major thing that absolutely drive me crazy with this team is how seemly easy they give up the puck in their own zone.
Nice to see others going crazy too. Yes, the taught defence is a stick checking team that turns its back to the boards, standing still with a 2 pass mentality leaving their zone and as such lose any momentum to aggressively take on a forecheck. Opponent pinches at the blue line, a forward remains behind the Canucks net now unchecked with a clear view of a developing play. Teams love playing the Canucks. Just my opinion but what do I know.

I think you're pretty knowledgeable when it comes to hockey

Well, my man... this is it. Three years later snd here we are. Final kick at the can.

I know the leafs are ranked #2 most likely to take it, because of the division they are in, but they are realistically 3rd or 4th best team left. Either way, I’m a man of my word and if they are hoisting the cup, you will be getting a crisp $100 e-transfered.

This is not going to plan, dropped from 5th to 7th for this years draft. Give the Canucks credit though for the 3rd period effort. Congratulations to Edler finally get his 100th goal unfortunately in the wrong net. Just more evidence of what could go wrong for the 2021 season.
The Florida/ Tampa game on the other hand was old time hockey at its best. Outstanding game. That was big boys against big boys. Look out Leafs.LOL.

I think there's 4 or 5 teams south of the border that could beat the leafs, tampa, florida, colorado, carolina for sure and a few more that would have a decent chance. they just don't have the goaltending and their d is not the best either imho, they made some decent additions but it's still a top heavy team, I hope we do see a leafs edmonton series next round.

Well sounds like jimbo is coming back next year. Can you imagine being the aquilinis and bringing back the one person that your fans want fired, but getting rid of the coaching staff that people want like Ian Clark and Travis green. What a joke of an organization. Aquilinis are just being cheap pricks that won’t pay to fix this mess that they are in and it’s getting worse.

Green is making chicken salad out of chicken ***** every nite and Clark is a goalie guru. Markstrom is not faring as well without him. Calgary will snap him up in a moment.

I was listening to a reporter talking about the Canucks “weaponizing” the expansion by using the fact they have more protected slots; and try and pick up some guys from other teams on the cheap, because they will lose them for nothing anyways to expansion. i have no faith in Benning being smart enough to navigate his way thru that.

Travis Green and Ian Clark aren’t gone just yet

On the fence about JB and contrary to my belief I have always felt he would bring the Boston model to Vancouver. Media and some fans need to change their persistence of chastising every move and the fire Benning fly by was criminal. Yes, he has faults like many GM's but a solid, experienced head of hockey operations would in my opinion fix his short comings. The owners don't seem to have an appetite to spend so it is what it is. Not sure the Sedins will be the answer either.
I do feel Green and Clarke are keepers but it is time for change for the rest. Team is going nowhere until the defence is fixed. Harmonic looks like a keeper over Edler in my opinion,Rathbone has a huge upside but a stay at home RHD should be first and foremost.
Really liked Lockwood last night as he has NHL skills and it showed. His past shoulder surgeries hopefully are behind him. Will be an interesting off season that's for sure. Vesey now looks like a likely replacement for Virtanen and maybe Highmore but the rest can go. The EDraft should put the Canucks in a position as mentioned to pick up some of the missing pieces.

I'm ok with not firing Benning and happy they signed Green for another 2 yrs, they gave Clarke an offer, sure hope he accepts it or it gets bumped up a bit to keep him if he doesn't. Benning definitely made some mistakes , but I don't think you can blame him for Eriksson, at the time he was the best available offense guy and that was the market at the time ( the length is definitely questionable) and I'm sure the sedins had some input in him coming here at the time. It's easy to bash that deal now but if he hadn't done it at the time he would have been bashed for not doing it, lol. He's made some great pick ups and trades and definitely a few bad contracts, no sure if they new ferland was damaged goods when they got him but must have had some idea, he's definitely they type of player we need though, imho. roussel was paid too much and probably beagle and a couple of others. I question signing holtby for that much, they knew demko was the guy a back-up for 1.5-2.5m was all they needed imho, I think they were and still are hoping seattle will pick him up. I hope they sign Harmonic, Edler might work for no more than 3 mil on a 1 yr deal, and sutter for around 2 and just not play him every game. It'll be interesting to see who they might trade in a big deal. at least they got to have a decent look at a few guys in the last few games of the season. podzkin should make the team this fall. it should be an interesting summer watching what they do to improve.

By the way they were talking it sounds like the owner might be willing to buy out the six million dollar's a year man, Eriksson to free up some salary cap. Are they still paying for Roberto to be retired in Florida? Big dollar bad deals just hamstring you. And make's it so you can't keep guys that could really help you, like the guy they lost to the Habs in free agency. (it hurts too much to say his name and watch him play for Montreal) ooooch

I understand Roberto has the ridiculous $3m recapture penalty for one more year. Spooners $1m is up but the albatross is still the Eriksson contract. Ferlands contract is not insured so I guess he will remain on LTIR until he retires or attempts a comeback. Aquilini has $20m from the Seattle expansion so possibly although painful in all likelihood Eriksson will be bought out. Roussel possibly with his injury situation and Beagle on the LTIR his career maybe over. Virtanen's situation will be interesting. Looks like on the surface there is money to sign EP40 and Hughes and depending on what they sign for room for a UFA. The **** off is the Loungo penalty costs the Canucks a quality 3rd line centre or the not for mentioned Montreal signing. Hopefully Seattle takes Holtby but I doubt it. That would really help.
Lots of work for JB to right the ship as his job will depend on it. Interesting times that's for sure.
Something maybe worth pursuing is Reinhardt out of Buffalo for our 1st plus a prospect ++. Costly but maybe worth a look. He wants out.

Buying out holtby is the best bang for buck that we have. But we likely still need him. Unless they are willing to shell out the real cash that they owe him which is like $7m to buy our and it saves 4 mill in cap space.

Rousell buyout would save like 200 grand in cap space.

Loui buy out would save just over a mill in cap space so he’s probably still sitting upstairs unless he retires.

Virtanen contact may be void or if they buy it out, will save 2 mill or so off cap.

Next year we are free of some stupid contracts and please don’t sign any over priced free agents. And don’t give edler and sutter any huge contracts. Those guys can play for 1.5 mill a year each and I’d be happy with that

What a game that jets oilers was last night, I love it, what a comeback. after the game they were interviewing mcdavid and draisaitl, draisaitl basically hung out the d and goalie to dry, he said we scored four goals that should be enough to win the game, lol, where the eff were those 2 in the 1st 2 games. I suspect there is a ton of bickering going on there now and they get wiped out today, sure hope so, smith is looking his age though and with the minutes nurse draisaitl and mcdavid played they will be bagged today, jets keep getting stronger and more confident, I think they can beat the laughs if they keep it up. oilers should've been resting guys for the playoffs instead of worry about mcchokes points, lol.

I hope the canucks can learn something from this series, oilers have the 2 best players and command 21m cap hit 25% of the whole damned team, you cannot buy enough competitive support to win a cup imho, toronto is in a similar situation, canucks can't or should I shouldn't pay both petey and weenie 10m or so each, I would seriously consider trading weenie if his demands are too high, you could throw in a draft pick and get a top 3 forward and possibly a top 2 or 3 d man and be competitive immediately imho. oilers have the best 2 players on the ice but the jets probably have the next 10 best players on the ice, I love that teams work ethic.

Quinn Hughes is a tough one - are you building a team for entertainment (in which case, go all in on Hughes who looks to be this gens Erik Karlsson) or are you building a team to compete for a cup (at this point in his development, he’s WAY too much of a defensive liability for the minutes he plays). If they can re-sign him for something relatively reasonable, I’m hoping we can enjoy watching him play while the he and the team mature and develops. Then, in 2-4 years they can reassess whether the cup is in reach and where his D-game has evolved to. Then they could trade him at the deadline if hes still all O and leaky on D for a piece or two to make a push or (hopefully) he rounds into shape and leads them along w/ Bo and Petey.

Cheers!

Ukee

Personally can't see trading Hughes anytime soon. His +- will for the short term manage his contract. Like Nicnat mentioned if his demands are stupidly outrageous it's something to consider. If he did he wants out anyway. His agent will know better as at the end of the day being a RF he has little negotiation rights.
Quinn is the power play specialists Canuck fans have screamed for like forever. What they really need is a Weber type, heavy, serious slap shot from the right point that has opposition defence thinking twice about blocking. Zero PP goals from the Canucks defence this season and missing EP40 is the telling story. I understand Rathbone has a heavy shot but plays left and I just wish he was 6'2 and 220 lbs.
Go,Winnipeg, go!! Love it.

you want the canucks to trade Quinn Hughes? am i reading this right?
yup I would, as long as I got 2 arms and a leg for him, if it came to keeping petey or weenie, weenie would go for sure. Rathbone looks good and could be the qback of the pp in the future or even possibly next year, I would only trade hughes if I got a top 3 forward and a top 3 defenseman that you could sign for 6m or less for each. maybe throw in draft pick and loui, lol. if they can sign hughes for a reasonable price, for sure keep him but I suspect he will want what petey might get, I think his will be one tough contract to figure out, imho he is going to demand way too much, I can see him sitting out the start of next season, make a blockbuster trade now is what I would do. I want a cup here not a copy of the present day oilers.

Good points but i respectfully disagree. i think he is a generational talent; he’s just young and he needs to be paired with a dman that is more stay at home. When he comes into his own he will be fine but i think his plus minus is always going to be suspect. he generates so much offense it’s insane.
i have long been a fan of the big, mean, stay at home dman that clears the net. for whatever reason Canuck fans just hate that kind of player. i used to be on twitter but i had to delete based on the extreme negativity canuck fans have. most of these arm chair gms have no way to even hold a hockey stick but they will generate some pie graph amd charts telling you why you are wrong. this teams major issue over the course of time is **** poor drafting and asset management. We are known as throwing in a pick to sweeten a trade. hat “pick” is a useful body that can stop the bleeding. that mentality by management needs to stop
