Trudeau government warns against travelling ... seriously

Health Minister Patty Hajdu — with a straight face — warned Canadians against travelling, 'unless absolutely necessary'

Now with her boss set to attend G20 in Rome at the end of the month and Glasgow for the United Nations climate summit at the start of November, Hajdu is warning us not to travel internationally.

Days after her boss admitted flying to Tofino on the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation was a thoughtless mistake , she’s now saying travel inside Canada is dangerous and can spread COVID.

If they were consistent they would say only travel if you are vaccinated. I mean that's what they told Americans visiting canada lol

how can you prescribe something that health canada says not to use and also how can a pharmacist fill the prescription.

Because it is approved for various other applications in humans related to parasite removals, and can indeed be filled by any pharmacist as a consequence.

Most of Mrs Sly's friends are RNs at the hospital. They know of a handful of workers who will take the stand and refuse vaccination, they are expecting the union to fight for them. Our senior nurse friends' stance is that these few anti vax nurses are wilfully ignoring health orders and general principles from their training and basically have nothing to say but "you can't tell me what to do." With that attitude so strong that they're willing to be suspended from their jobs, are these the team players that the health system needs? No, according to our friends. They'd rather work short handed than have the questionable assistance of people whose thinking is so skewed that they refuse such a simple easy precaution to protect their patients, co workers and themselves.

Should also note that the announcement of a vaccination mandate for health care workers did trigger a lot of them to get moving and book first shots. There may well be legal challenges from various unions attacking the mandates, and these will of course take many months to be resolved. Long before that, the main objective will have been achieved: to prod the procrastinators and fence sitters into action. The doughty few true resisters will in the end come to an accommodation after being directed to counseling to review their claims of religious and/or medical exemptions.

I do think in the health care arena that legal challenges will fail and the mandates will be upheld. The duty to protect patients and co workers is so strongly supported by vaccine implementation that the individual rights argument will not sway the judiciary. In other workplaces the health argument is less imperative and employers will probably be forced to accommodate, with such measures as work from home, no in person meetings, etc.

I just do not understand how getting a vaccine protects your co workers? Both still get covid . Without the vaccine chances of hospitalization are higher. You can make the case it puts strain on our health care system but so did shutting down surgeries last year and the system was overloaded prior to covid.

this is huge data and the significance of our delay in 2nd shot 5 months and still 90% protection from hospitalization
I'm a little concerned with the way this is going. I'm obviously not a scientist but I've been doing my best to find credible info. I could be wrong and I'm sure some on here will find a wikipedia article to try to prove this is wrong but it seems like from what I'm reading, the vaccines efficacy drops significantly over time. if this is true, the people that rushed out and got vaccinated back in January-Feb may not have anywhere near the protection we had hoped for at this point. They will have some, but not what was originally thought. So now the big push will be boosters which from what I've read, is debatable if its safe or not. So where do we go from here? We are nearing 90% vaccination, Covid is still out of control , we have a vaccine that is dropping in efficacy and an FDA in the states that just had two very high up people walk off the job and say a booster may not be a safe option. So what's plan B? This new Merck pill?

apparently they would rather just not work at all.

"Multiple nurses and doctors who spoke to CBC News said roughly two-thirds of emergency room nurses at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops had left their job in recent months due to stress and burnout."

I don't think you understood the data in that thread (or didn't dig into it). What this is showing, is that the way Canada and UK chose to do shot rollouts is proving to be way more effective. Barely a slide in high percent staying out of hospital at 5 months post 2nd shot and while looking at the "weeks between" graphic, 3-4 weeks between shots (US, Israel etc) are finding after 4 months, only 76-86% effective, but 7-8 weeks between (Canada/UK) is showing 90-92% still.

Apparently I read that after 3-4 weeks your body can still have antibodies in it, These antibodies will fight off the second vaccination.

By going to 8 weeks it allows the antibodies to clear from your system forcing your body to have a T-cell response to create new antibodies. Allowing for a more robust protection.
