B.C. health officials announced 656 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and 16 more deaths.

According to a written statement from Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix, there are now 8,796 active cases of infection from the novel coronavirus.

There are currently 336 people in hospital, 138 more than two weeks ago, with 76 in intensive care.

Henry and Dix said everyone, without exception, needs to follow public health orders and stop all social gatherings and community events in order to slow transmission of COVID-19.

"It is a time for all of us to pause, to think about the many people throughout our province, our nation and the world who have been impacted by COVID-19 and other global epidemics. It is also a time to think about what we can do to make a difference," they said.

"Let's be resilient in face of this surge. United and together, let's make an impact today through our own personal actions."

With the latest deaths, the provincial death toll stands at 457. To date, 33,894 people have had confirmed cases of COVID-19 in B.C.

A total of 10,123 are currently in isolation and under monitoring by public health workers because of exposure to the virus.

And now the hospital in Port with a couple of cases
Lots of people who are either in denial or just don’t care!
There are lots of this going on Province Wide.
This is one example in Victoria just this weekend.
And with Christmas right around the corner, I fear it's only going to get worse!
I saw a person with a sign "God is bigger than Covid"
God help us!!
“Victoria police broke up two house parties Saturday night and issued one ticket of $230 and one ticket of $2,300 for violating the province’s COVID-19 rules.
Police Chief Del Manak said in a Twitter message that party-goers lied to police about the number of guests at the parties and tried to hide in bedrooms and closets.”

Alberta asks federal government, Red Cross for field hospitals as COVID spreads

Province struggling with soaring COVID-19 cases, hospitals are overwhelmed

Dec 02, 2020

As COVID-19 cases soar in Alberta and hospital capacity is stretched, the province has reached out to the federal government and the Canadian Red Cross for help, CBC News has learned.

A federal source with direct knowledge of the situation says Alberta has asked the federal government and the Red Cross to supply field hospitals to help offset the strain COVID-19 is having on the health-care system.

The source said Alberta would likely receive at least four field hospitals — two from the Red Cross and another two from the federal government. The source, speaking on condition of confidentiality, said there was no request for human resources to staff the hospitals and no request for support from the military.

The source said a formal request has still not been sent by the province, but officials have been discussing in detail the level of support Alberta could receive.

Federal Health Minister Patty Hajdu is scheduled to speak with Alberta Health Minster Tyler Shandro on Wednesday to discuss the requests and what other supports Ottawa can offer the province during the pandemic.

CBC News has reached out to the province for comment, but has not yet received a response.

An official from Public Safety Canada said they have not received any requests for field hospitals from any other provinces or territories.

Alberta continues to set new daily COVID-19 infection records and leads the country in the number of active cases per capita. It has also sometimes led the country in total active cases. For example, on Tuesday, there were 16,628 active cases in Alberta, compared to 14,524 in Ontario — a province with more than three times as many people.

On Tuesday, the province reported 1,307 new cases and a test positivity rate of 8.4 per cent. Alberta has reported more than 1,000 cases each day for nearly two weeks.

There were 479 people in hospital and 97 in ICUs on Tuesday, but the province will update those numbers on Wednesday afternoon at a news conference to be attended by both Premier Jason Kenney and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw.

The last time Kenney appeared at a COVID-19 update was on Nov. 24 when he introduced new restrictions on social gatherings, among other measures, in an attempt to stem the rising tide of cases while continuing to focus on the province's economic health.

He said those restrictions would be revisited on Dec. 15 and stricter measures could be imposed if cases continue to rise.

Critics have called those measures insufficient.

Since then, doctors have warned of overburdened hospitals and ICUs and the province has taken the step of double-bunking some patients in ICU rooms as part of its plans to deal with a surge.

On Nov. 27, Alberta Health Services sent a memo to staff asking them to conserve oxygen supplies as demand increases.

Glad AB is being proactive.... I'm confident every province has done the same. Of course the CBC would run with this non story.

Well the AB government just announced the Vaccine roll out. This should match the rest of Canada. At most 10% of the population will be vaccinated by end of March. These will be long term care residents and workers.

By September 30% of the population will be vaccinated. These will be on reserve natives, health care workers, vulnerable folks and seniors

AFTER SEPTEMBER the rest of the population will be able to be vaccinated as supplies will be high enough.

But do not worry! Our federal government made sure the vaccine timing and roll out will be Inclusive, gender neutral, non binary, green, diverse, & call pepole by their preferred pro nouns.

For those who want the vaccine sooner can probably take a trip to Mexico and get it.

Just incase anyone in BC was wondering this is ready to go if needed.

April 2, 2020 – Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) – in partnership with the Ministry of Health, Providence Health Care, Health Emergency Management BC, the Canadian Red Cross and B.C.'s Mobile Medical Unit – is mobilizing an alternate care site at the Vancouver Convention Centre, as part of its COVID-19 preparedness planning. While VCH continues to be cautiously optimistic that the COVID-19 curve can be flattened, precautionary steps continue to be taken, including setting up an alternate care site, as part of the pandemic response.

The purpose of the alternate care site is to add more bed capacity for lower acuity, non-COVID-19 patients to allow additional capacity within regional hospitals for critically ill COVID-19 patients who may need access to our critical care units.

The alternate care site will increase health-care capacity across the province, augment existing hospital infrastructure and provide additional bed capacity across VCH and the province.

A VCH medical director and operations lead will be at the site to oversee transfers to and from the site, provide medical oversight and support an interdisciplinary team of health care providers including doctors, nurses, care aides and other clinical and non-clinical care providers.

It is a pandemic.
Good time to have a drill and set the stuff up.
If not needed, great! Successful drill too.
Hopefully these will not be required.

Here is what BC should expect for a vaccine roll out and timing. Each province will be within days if not hours of each other receiving first delivery & volume of dose per capita

Most Albertans will have to wait until next summer for vaccines, premier says

Not all of this will arrive at once," Kenney said. "We've been assured by the federal government that shipments will begin to arrive by Jan. 4 and continue to arrive in waves throughout the early part of next year."

Phase 1 of the vaccine roll out will happen in the first three months of 2021, he said, when it's anticipated that vaccines will been given to about 435,000 people, a little more than 10 per cent of the population.

Phase 2 of the roll out will run from April to June, with the goal by the end of the period to have 30 per cent of the population immunized.

That's a curious way to phrase it. Alberta's outbreak is so bad that capacity limits in hospitals are being reached. Kenny has just gone cap in hand, or as close as he can manage to it, to Ottawa asking for three field hospitals.

If they need help they should get it ASAP

as stated many times, people can think what they want and they will do what that want. I know what me and my family are choosing to do - it’s be overly safe and responsible for the greater good.

what a lot of people don’t realize is that the larger hospitals in BC are already struggling with the current COVID demand. Smaller hospitals CANNOT cope with even moderate COVID volumes, the cases are being sent to larger Centers. What does this mean? The already burdened health system is starting to crumble. Decisions will again have to be made about delaying ones CT scan, cancer or brain surgery, or there will be delays in treating you for your heart attack and you or someone you know will die because of that. Not because YOU have COVID, but because the system cannot keep up and you or someone you know will die because of the system inability to serve the greater good.

my friend from Alberta that need a surgery really bad just posted this on her Facebook.

"Surgery is cancelled. OR’s are closing for non-emergencies. I will get a call as soon as they can open up again. With the provincial government requesting field hospitals as a “contingency plan” it probably won’t be anytime soon. Stay healthy out there!!"

I hope she sent a THANK YOU CARD to Kenney.

My next brain scan (Dye & CT Scan) has been "rescheduled" four times since April. Next supposedly 15 December.
No call saying not to come... yet...
