Are scotty 2106 worth the money?

I got one warrantied because of condensation but didn't actually replace it until it was done-done. The guys at Pacific Angler just gave me one and said to bring the old back when I changed it. Benefit of dealing with a local shop.

Well with 15s at 200' you're talking maybe 8-10 seconds but I wouldn't dare run 18s or 20s with the 1106 at those depths. I realise 8-10 seconds doesn't seem like a lot but it's an eternity when you've just accidentally popped the clip for the second time 200' down.

Even with a 15# ball, my old 1106 wheezes and grunts trying to get the damn thing up! WOuld never try a 20!!

Do you have to show a receipt? I never save the damn things....

Not sure what they are doing now but it use to be that if it had not been previously registered (serial #) in another name in their system, when you took it into the repair depot at the factory on the Sannich Peninsula, not far from Victoria, they would register it in their system in your name and you were good to go for warranty, which is critical because of the lifetime warranty on riggers.

Once had a new rigger that had no receipt because we won it in a derby and had no problem getting Scotty to enter it into their warranty system.

If you fish offshore and on the bottom, they are better.
Bigger ball means you can go faster which most of us don't do but should. Bigger ball means you can fish two rods deep and go fast enough.
On the other hand the daily limit is 2 chinooks and one hali where I fish, what's the rush?
I fish the old ones from a friend's boat; he has the new ones and I fish with him sometimes. So I've used both quite a bit.

The 2106 are a solid product with strong aftermarket service in my experience. One side scotty question where the heck can you buy just the plastic plug for the flush mount rod holders? Mine are installed across the transom and they're always being torn off. Arrrgh

100% worth it especially when fishing deep. Seconds matter when the bite is on!

Pardon me but I am pretty sure whenever I get a hit or loose a fish when fishing deep with the 1106 downriggers they are always back in before my reeling. And if I had a rookie or a young kid on board. the downrigger would be back up several minutes before the lure.

The good, Fast and smooth, the cover comes off easier and they handle more weight. The Bad, higher amps, counters die. Now, Scotty has never asked me for a bill of sale so I don’t think resold units make a diff to them. I’ve had mine serviced several times over the last 5 years and never been asked for my bill of sale. Scotty came out with a new counter last August that is supposed to fix all the previous issues. I tho always carry a spare counter. Redundancy on a boat is a best practise.

They may not have asked you for a bill of sale bc when you give them the serial numbers it will show up with your name and address. If the name and address in their system matches with the name and shipping address you provide them to send out the replacement parts.. There is prob no need to get proof of purchase. I guess if I can find a new set in the box or unregistered from a seller that would be ideal... Concerning to hear a comment about someone having to replace the led screens on a yearly basis though.

Maybe .....and that's a big maybe a guide replaces them yearly. Mine are on year 4 or so......and I fish a fair amount. I would think most guides who fish daily aren't going through them yearly.if you remember to turn them off they last a long time

I have fished both quite a bit, If your fishing 15lb balls get the 2106, If your fishing 12lb balls I would save the money and get 1106. I cant say one bad thing about the 1106, But I can about the 2106.

They are pretty nice. If you hit retrieve by the time you even get your rod ready from
A hit or checking your bait your cannon ball is sitting there ready to go. I use 20 pound balls too.
Just don’t use the Scotty braid it comes with. It’s too thick and you get lots of blowback. I upgraded to Power Pro. Much better.
If your going to be fishing for a long time it would be worth buying new from a good dealer who does repairs and then you get the benefit of warranty repairs.

The tackle shop will register the warranty with your name and serial number so you don’t need receipt maybe just ID when you take in for repair

Seems like a nice upgrade if I can find a set for a reasonable price. Gonna hold off on a few boat uogrades until the baffoons at DFO make their announcements in April.

They are a lot faster, but the real nice part is how smooth they are.
I forgot to say that actually. The cachunkachunckachunk of the 1106' becomes way more apparent once you hear the hummm of the new ones

And to think we used to crank downriggers by hand for many years and that was a vast improvement over hanging 2 lb balls or slip weights. However the consolation was you didn’t have to fish deep and many more fish :)

Perhaps if you are playing a fish that is released off the rigger down deep. But if you want to check your bait, weed check or change a lure on a slow 1106 with a 15lb ball you can grab the rod, prepare to reel like crazy and bring up the rigger with the line still in the release clip as you reel. I can stay on top of it reeling speed wise without the water/flasher back pressure on it and it is just a question of releasing it on the surface and bringing in the last 15 feet or so.

With the 2106 you will not be able to keep up with it but it will be much faster overall getting in your gear. If you have never fished the high speeds, in terms of the perceived difference between them and the 1106 especially with the 15lb balls, you will be amazed at the difference. It is like a 900 hp super car compared to a 70 hp econo-box. The perceived difference is huge in actual use even with a 20lb ball on the 2106. So yes it does make you faster working gear especially if you are deep. If someone is playing a fish it makes it much faster for me to clear gear, get the riggers up, with the balls out of the water and the riggers swung forward and out of the way and be holding the net by the time they get the big salmon in close to the boat. In short I would be less likely to have all the gear and rods cleared and be ready to net with the slow 1106's if the fish comes in fast.

I've caught lots of nice fish with the 1106's as I'm bring gear up to check it. Guys I've talked to say this never happens with the 2106 as the gear is coming up to fast.
This! I get a lot on bait checks fishing the whole water column
