Great interview.... Cherry could have done a better job on explanation for sure. This Immigrant lawyer's point of view seems logical, fair and actually quite refreshing. A Canadian immigrant himself.

Well sir, if opposing exclusionary, bigoted language and attitudes means people are *******, there are a lot of them and I'm proud to be one of them. And we all disagree wholeheartedly with your view that there is any validity, let alone truth to Cherry's impugned comments, for reasons that have been explained at length. Look up "ad hominem" in the dictionary; it's not an effective way to argue.

I've always found it rather ridiculous that Don Cherry, along with other sports and entertainment personalities, depart from talking about things about which they may know something (sports, entertainment) and spout off about things they are often singularly unqualified to comment on in a meaningful way. Don't get me wrong, they are free to do so, if their employer tolerates (or encourages) it, and they are free to do so as private citizens, just like the rest of us. But, with rare exceptions, Don Cherry and virtually all of the actors, entertainers, athletes and others who proffer opinions on politics, social or cultural issues, science, or anything outside of what got them in the public eye, are no more qualified to do so than virtually any member of the public. (You may as well pull random people off the street.) Yet because of their media profile, the viewing public listens to what they say on these issues. I don't and what Cherry has said here is the reason why.

He said what he believes, and appears to have always believed. At 7:36 of this video he says “I wish more Canadians were like me” in a related context; the interviewer asks him where such a view leads. Definitely worth watching even though it is from 30 years ago. Appalling then and appalling now.

What Cherry believes or doesn't believe wasn't my point .....just to be clear about my post, if Don Cherry has noticed over time that there are more and more new immigrants not wearing poppies as compared to other Canadians then he has a right to believe what he sees....and to him is a correct observation. HOWEVER what I am saying is on TV he did not need to go that far as to point that out specifically
. ALL CANADIANS should respect our veterans and go buy a poppy. Its that simple to have avoided his firing and made the point that Canadians wearing poppies is important and shows respect and gratitude to our veterans

Its really too bad because Cherry could have just mentioned his displeasure of seeing less and less Canadians wearing poppies these days and encouraged/promoted the wearing of poppies without his displeasure taking the additional step of aiming the comment at immigrants only. It would have been the same message but without anything racist in the comment.

He seems to have come to the same conclusion but it’s just too little too late. I wish he was smart enough to resign on Sunday morning and save his face. This is just too bad.

There are a ton of just regular old white folks not wearing poppies. I hope some of you that support his message were equally hard on "old stock" Canadian's that were also too lazy to wear the poppy.

I'd also love to know how he determined whether they were newcomers to Canada. I have a feeling he might have shortcutted that in his analysis.

Don Cherry is a red neck , but he is a Canadian Icon.
That said I always enjoyed his commentary.
People are overly sensitive about everything these days.
Try moving away to a foreign country and see how sensitive they are

You go down, click on the game you want to watch, then a bunch of streams come up. I always choose "bilasport" because it doesn't have pop-up advertising, they just ask for donations, and I don't get a warning message from my spyware with it which some of the streams do. If you don't have super fast internet it can sometimes freeze, and you don't see any advertising, just a "commercial in progress" screen.
