2021 Bamfield and Barkley Sound Reports

And they can take a beating as I had the unfortunate pleasure of experiencing last weekend. We had to come home 20+ nautical miles directly into a Head wind that was blowing 25-30 knots and gusting up to 38knots according to a app i use, add on to that the flood was heading in the opposite direction... It was deffintly sporty and she only came away with a few minor issues like a missing horn that got ripped off by a greeny over the bow and a crack on the dash. Not sure what happened there but the door into the cuddy had the hardware ripped right out of the door. I think it was my death grip on the steering wheel combined with the pressure from my feet on the foot rest. Also there was a bag of gear under the bed and another guy holding on to the dash as well. I think all these things and launching off a wave that sent everything flying all contributed! The funny thing is that about 30 seconds before that my buddy said I cant believe all the stuff hasn't moved off the counter!

I'll probably be suffering from PTSD from that trip for years to come.
A trip to remember, lol!

Yeah they can take a licking. I beat the crap out of mine for 20 years

Same, if anyone has any intel for Chinook in the sound or offshore Hali I'd be grateful!
Offshore hali has been awesome. Unfortunately it's gonna blow 40 knots the next few days so that outing might have to wait. Hopefully it calms down by the weekend. Springs are around. Austin and Cree have been pretty good. Kirby down to Ohiat and Sandford have also been solid.
Can't go wrong dragging Irish Cream or Bon Chovy skinny gs 6 ' behind your fav flasher. Lots of smaller fish and pinks are also starting to show. Anchovies are a great bet but a pain in the butt changing out bait every 5 minutes.
Good luck to you...

Does anyone have coordinates for 5 Mile Bank to share? I have 7 Mile. First trip to Bamfield in August. Any info about these spots would be helpful: please send me message. I'm not into going much farther off shore (I don't have radar) although I'm sure my Skipjack would be good to go on a nice day.

Don't have 5 mile, but South Bank is not that far out.

On the 745. Boat tomorrow. Be fishing Sanford ohuat area by 4. Seems like a lot of members up.
I'll always share Intel to help a brother out. But I guarantee it'll be white hootchy 70ft on one side wherever I'm fishing. Gw 208 blue Bimini in grappler.

Got back from a 3 day trip to Bamfield on Sunday with my dad and brother in law. First time ever to Bamfield and what a beautiful place. Just amazing there. Crazy nice weather, almost too hot. Stayed at Mills Landing, great place.
Fishing was fantastic. Got our limits of springs. Nothing huge, but beautiful fish around 9-14lbs. Lots of undersized, but they were scrappy. Got a few sockeye on our way up the inlet. Also managed a random coho. Lots of lings and other bottom fish. One halibut to cap it off. More fish than I have ever caught.

Huge thanks to @Derby for taking us out. First class guy and charter. Lots of firsts with him. Did a great job keeping his cool when someone trolled over and tangled on our anchor line miles out in the open ocean with no one around. Still not sure how that person managed that.

How id the road to Bamfield right now? Is it worth trying to take the boat on the road, or should I just launch in Port Alberni?

I'd dump the boat in Port. If you do drive there is plenty of spare parts on the road, just have to look for them. Lol

Thanks Guys, I will launch in the inlet. I was thinking I could save some time and fuel going in through Lake Cowichan.

It will be a whole new ball game once it's chip sealed...
I was hoping that they have been doing a bunch of work in preparation for that.
do it Dave! Take the back route and report back!
My motto is usually "How bad could it be?" But I have driven that road when it's bad, so I kind of have an idea.
If it has been relatively freshly graded, I would definitely consider it.
