Bow - to - Stern Line attachments to boat, halibut anchoring

I have a splice at the bow end of the line I loop it through the tow hook, tow eye whatever it’s callled haha then I have it measured to where it would be easiest to release and put one of these quick releases there and there’s about 4’ of rope from it that then goes to my stern cleat which I just wrap just in case I needed to release it there etc simple to adjust where the line sits etc or tighten it up so it doesn’t bang when running.much faster then the sharpest knife out there
I have the same quick release as you have fishin solo. It works great but haven't needed to use it since I installed it a few years ago. Would be good for times you got a large hali in current and wanted to drift back to make landing/release easier.
I did have to cut my bow/stern line once while anchored on Constance Bank (well out of incoming freighter lane). There was only myself and one other boat anchored on SW Constance at 1 pm on a clear sunny day. A freighter decided it needed to go over me to get to anchorage. When we realized the freighter wasn't going to correct course we had to cut loose. Shortly after the freighter took out my anchor system never to be seen again.

I'm not sure I completely understand this......so is your anchor actually pulling your boat midship then? Do you end up sideways to current?

Lol no, it’s just the most convenient spot where to release it if I have to in a split second.... you think I have a death wish or something ?

Why the float? Doesn’t that stop your ring from sliding to the front so the anchor pulls from the center? Just curious...

Made a big stupid mistake a few years ago and anchored on the south side of Race Rocks in way too much current. The anchor boy was actually pulling down. When I went to retrieve it the anchor stuck firm and because the retrieval line slid to the back as it should it started to pull my stern down and started to flip my boat, Couldn't stop because the current was so fast it also wanted to roll the boat I was instantly in a lot of trouble. No time to cut the rope or flip it from the cleat ( this happens fast!) Gave it full throttle and luckily pulled the flutes straight on my anchor so that it released, Scared the **** out of me. I now tie my slider line at the rear cleat with 200lb braid so that it will break and let the anchor go should it happen again.

Ok so that attaches to your bow line and you pull it back to release it? Not trying to be a dick I’m just not picking it up and I am totally open to a better way for sure. I’m definitely not the sharpest crayon in the box.

The float is just to help with retrieval if you slip off the anchor to land a fish or get caught in the **** or whatever. Makes zero difference to anchoring or pulling. Just a bit easier to pick up the line from the Scotsman/double ring to your bow line.

Yeah I guess? Lol. The float is right at the bow. I’m thinking you are still making a trip to the front of the boat with a boat hook either way. Hopefully there is no need to test it out....

The float is at the bow in the picture, it usually sits at the stern and i clip in front of it.
Honestly i put it there as I wasn't sure if the stainless snap would rub on the back corner of the boat when i drove past the scotchman during retrieval.

That makes sense. Just was wondering as everyone does things a little different. I get the rubbing part. I’m still anal now that I went aluminum as well...lol. Depends on rear cleat placement and if you maintain a bit of an angle when you are pulling I find.

I use this carabener to snap onto my bow to stern line , assume most use these , or the threaded locking beners

Nope Greg, it's just if you had to let go of your anchor you can motor back and pick up the line from the double ring to the carabiner that you hook onto your bow to stern line easier as it's floating. Then reconnect and fish away or pull your anchor. Do it all from the stern.
