2017 Central Coast Reports

Just got back from 2 months 'guiding' at Hakai Pass...
Lots of Coho. Very few springs. In fact, I can't recall anyone taking home a limit of Springs.
Biggest fish taken at the lodge I was at: 48# There was also a 40#, 34#, couple of 30# and a few in the 20# range. That's it. Probably no more than 3 dozen Springs taken all season.
The fish were scattered at times and places not normally fished, were holding and producing at various times throughout the season.
Halibut, same thing. couldn't get them consistently at the regular spots.
Long time guests of the Lodge seemed to be least affected by the lack of Springs but, it was tough for all.
There didn't seem to be any conditional reason for the lack of Springs. Water temps were good for the most part.
Tons of bait fish, Humpies feeding around the pass most of the season.
Some big Northern Coho moved in near the end to spice things up.
