Just to clear up any assumptions...Port Alberni's stratedgy was to vote every 12 hrs from 9am start then again at 9pm till 2 am before the contest deadline time. It was important to get the 2 votes in daily before 2am and pm. Slamming them on monday night till 2am via alot of local networking was also a very good strategic move. When the competition woke up, they were shocked to see us 11,000 votes in the lead 3 days before the contest close. Port NEVER looked back and built on that lead. Had to get inside their heads and decided they only had 3-4000 votes to plug in daily and were running out of manpower. Being able to read their newspapers articles and share also helped in trying to figure out their stratedgy and any additional govt support or ill will shown towards the west only made us stronger. There is no doubt there are alot of great fishing holes in Canada, but the early bird gets the worm. Sleeping in for a derby just wont do! Because of this contest, looks like we are going to have to visit some of those other communities to see what the fuss was about. Good on all the communities for putting their towns in the spotlight. THAT mission is accomplished. This town needs this kind of exposure after all the setbacks and bad press in Money magazines it has recieved.
