Port Renfrew 2009 Season

Once the fishing sortof picks up to where it is now, does itseem to stay somewhat consistent through summer now, or are these just an odd school of fish just moving through? Im thinking about dragging my lund out there (14') and crabbing and trying east point... just need to pick a good day??:)

Nedarb: Seems to be schools passing through...last week was red hot, gear down & fish on. This weekend not so much. Still fish around, but had to work for them and wait for the bite.

However, who knows when next school's coming through, so best to get out there and give it a shot...in my experience, if you only wait until you hear it's hot, then you always just miss it, "should have been here yesterday, was really going off"...doh! [)]

It is worth it right now for the crabs alone...never a sure thing, but pretty close to it.

Have fun!

Thanks for dropping off dem dere crabs lipripper.Had a great feast.:D

thanks guys,
ill begoing out this weekend - it will either be sansum or renfrew - renfrew prefered of course, but that will require dragging a parent out there which can be a hassle ;)

am i also reading the regs right - there is nothing closed for fishing around east point until july 15th?
Is botom fishing open there too?

There were some springs at the Harbour mouth, and if you go East of East point, there is plenty in the way of bottomfish. Springs for me were right on the bottom 90-150 feet off the mouth of the bay.

But based on the Vancouver fishing reports, in your neck of the woods it may be worth running around to Thrasher or outside Porlier to drag up some springs.

Latest report I heard is that the salmon were biting again yesterday.

Not going crazy all day, but steady, up to 25 pounds.

I haven't heard halibut reports, but I'm betting they are there!

Supposed to be awesome summer-like weather this weekend...fingers crossed.

I haven't heard bait/lure of choice this week. I was out a couple times last week, and we had best luck on small anchovies.

Small spoons and purple haze-like hootchies were working ok too, but bait seemed best.

Try them all, see which gets the bite!

Took the trailer up to our spot at the marina on thurs afternoon and went fpr an evening fish at east poin and got one on and lost it after a few mins.. Drank a bottle of jack had a nice evening on the water. Went out on fri morning to camper and got one on and popped off again! Made a few more passes by the bait we saw on the sounder and got a screamer on and lost it to a seal after a few huge runs and 10 mins of fighting.. As for crabbing we got over 10 keepers per trap. 4 or 5 huge ones per trap..

Fished yesterday 10am till 3pm landed 20 springs up to 25lbs camper creek bouncing the bottom, there still full of needle fish.

Was thinking of heading over to Renfrew tomorrow to give it a shot, assuming the wind sorta cooperates. Any reports from today? Thanks
Peter

no need to wory about wind it's just about always fishable in close but you might want to check your tides either very early to get out of the river or noonish i'm heading up for the afternoon flood.

neener! its Braden haha, how did you make out of nanaimo in the end?
after a few waves over the side and being thrown around we headed in - sounds like it picked up though.

Is the hewes craft yours?
If you need a buddy for going out give me a ring ;) Im sure that boat would handle renfrew much better than mine haha

Thanks bananas - might see you out there this afternoon. Hey Braden got one 17lb spring off the fingers/nanaimo yesterday (early) - ugly chop & dead the rest of the day (yep that was me in the hewes).
Cheers
Peter
