I hear that the island ( bamfield, winter harbour etc.) are really good spots for catching big size and quantity of Salmon and halibut, I have not been out there but have seen the pictures of my folks on their trips, really awesome! A rather in-expensive way to get into sockeye/spring is bottom bouncing on the fraser in the mid summer months. But be ready for the crowds and 3:30am wake ups if you plan on fishing near island 22 in chilliwack. Im no expert just a guy that caught his first spring (26 lbs) two years ago at island 22 and lots of pink and sockeye this year. Cheap, fun and a good way to get into salmon fishing...
