Conservative Majority Government

Of course you will Holmes. You are a left leaning socialist pinko commie and I am a right wing oppressive manipulating capitalist pig. We are diametrically opposed and bound to be locked in eternal battle for evermore.

Nah just sh*tiing with yah. but I am a little right of center and you are a little left. While I voted conservative, my riding went NDP and I was rooting for Ronna-rae for North Island.

I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Cats look down on us. Pigs treat us as equals.
Sir Winston Churchill.

Don't hold yer' breath on the GR thing. He used it to get the rural vote and pad his majority; now it'll be business as usual.

STEPPING ON THE OUTDOORSMAN!

In terms of the halibut issue, sorry to say you may as well take down those protest signs for a few years. With this gov't elected handily, and in particular in the North Island where opposition was most fierce, they now have a clear mandate to continue the course. When faced with complaints now their response can be unequivocal -- "the people have spoken and they don't agree with you". Hate to say it guys and gals, recreational halibut fishing is now officially a minority fringe issue.

And if the speculation turns out to be correct and Duncan ends up as the next Fisheries Minister, you think he's going to look fondly on all those friendly folks who promised him his head on a platter in this election? Over the last 6 months this fight actually had some political promise ... especially if it was one of the issues that drove an incumbent out of office. Now it will be worse than ever. Assume the position, now the fun begins ...

Well gents, it is what it is. The people have spoken. Congratulations to the winners regardless of Party membership.

Was it the right choice? Time will tell.

No matter how this turned out, or wether we agree with it or not, we all recognize that west coast fisheries are in trouble and have to be protected, and that the Halibut allocation situation still needs to be dealt with.

IMO the most critical aspect of this election to this end is that we now officially know who our friends and enemies are. Time now for all of us left leaning socialist pinko commies and right wing oppressive manipulating capitalist pigs to set aside our differences and get back to the important matters at hand.

Those of you like Sushihunter that are card carrying party members and approach the issue with the idea of change from within, time to get Duncan's ear and MAKE him listen. For the rest of us, time to regroup and adjust our battle plans to include our new political friends , and keep pressure on those that are not.

With regards to the folks on the site that have Aggressively participated in the discussions on the forum, I salute you all. Regardless of party or voting decision, you have my utmost respect for both getting involved and defending your beliefs. We are all fortunate to live in a country that allows us to do so without having to resort to violence.

So raise a glass, mug, bottle, or can, to all of us, no matter what, we stand together as proud Canadians. Salute!

I've been away, watching TV and talking with friends via Skype.

It looks like Duncan has squeeked back in by 1799 votes - down from his 2400 in 2008.

I haven't had time to crunch the numbers yet to see where the votes came from or went to.

To be honest, I am amazed that Duncan was re-elected this time. I thought for sure that the Halibut and Fish Farm issues would have taken him out.

Anyway, I think we got a good result for the country. We will get at least 4 years of electorial peace without having to worry about going into a snap election. And that is a good thing.

Now, we have to keep the pressure on Duncan and Shea to fix the Halibut Allocation so that it is fair for everyone, and not just the commercial quota holders. I will be making my feelings known to our MP's and I hope you all will also.

Now, can we all go back to talking about fishing, and being friends again?

Jim is right. Time for a deep breath. But its not time to walk away. All is not lost. We managed to take the issue national , and right to the PM. We do have a commitment from Duncan to work with all sectors to find a better split on halibut. I will be giving Duncan a couple of weeks to get settled in, and then remind him of that promise.

Amen to that, Jim.

I am looking forward to the next battle for our sport fishing priviledges. Let's go get 'em!

To those who voted for their cause, do not consider this as a loss but a simple step back to get a better view of the target. Remember what your goal was and continue the approach.
Cheers.

Well people, take a deep breath and get ready for a real fight.
The Halibut concern will seem to be a minor concern when the majority government changes the Fisherys Act.
They wanted to do so before but did not have a majority, now they do.
With the change DFO can do as they wish on quotas etc.

Proud Canadian my a$$! I am ashamed that we could not show Duncan how democracy works and that his total ignorance did not cost the ultimate political price. Watch and cheer when you see hatcheries getting dismantled, fish farms expanding and the sportfishing sector getting the boot. But of course, they will be soooo good for our local economy! Yeah right, 6 more fish farming slaves replacing everyone employed by the sportfishing industry. Canadians had their priorities I guess. Little lives could not look over the rim to see the bigger picture. Very sad indeed. I think I am done with my support for anything I thought was worth fighting for. I lost faith in us Canadians. We sadly only truly care for hockey gold. May we suffocate on it.

better get yer hali while ya can, and all the other species u wish to fish for cause our rites are going to be taken away even more than they already have...we'll see how that tune changes when you and your family are not allowed to engage in such activities...holmes*

so what exactly do ya mean about the above staement from the gay shea thread?, i know a little more then some give me credit for, so youre saying she was elected because my posts were forwarded to her?,lol

I meant that now that we have a conservative majority, along with the hali coalition doing their best to sway the vote in north island and comments forwarded off of this thread(the least of the issues and not just yours) it will be interesting to see what happens here with respect to the halibut issue.

If they have spawned their KIDS are gonna get the short end of the stick...sorry to say.

I made note of that awhile back but it went un noticed. We will eventually have nothing to sportfish for and no public access any where. Pretty sad!
