Conservative Majority Government

Sure, I'll bite in a few point form notes.

I support a conservative governement because Military is important to me
I support a conservative governement because owning a gun and not feeling like a criminal is important to me.
I support a conservative governement because i believe we need less government
I support a conservative governement because I believe that not everyone should be treated equal
I support a conservative governement because I belive in a form of privatized health care.
I support a conservative governement because i believe tax breaks for corporations is a great thing.

There are also just as many reasons of why i dont support the cons as well. but that wasn't the question. FYI i did not vote for John Duncan

Man...as if Duncan will win ANOTHER squeeker...this guy is the king of winning the close races...pretty nuts....rotten bugger Should he win we will actually have to try to convince him and work with him, as unlikely and hard as that may be, it's what we have to do. Constant pressure sticking together still. HIGHLY doubt that Shea will remain fisheries minister...I think next one will be from BC.

Finally hear the conservatives say something. But still rather negative. This will be an interesting 4 years.

Can one of you now finally tell us why to support a con? You're safe now, and I promise not to criticize. Why?
While it may not be as clear in NI due to the state of the economy there, most of the rest of Canada was very insulated from the recession of the past three years and most of that is attributable to the economic policies of the past four or five years. I know that the Island has suffered for many years due to the forest industries over the past 10 years. Overall, Canada dodged a bullet that most of the rest of the developed world got hit by. Our debt -to-GDP ratio was the best in the Western world and our national banking policy continued to support business and investment when the rest of the banking community was fleeing the credit business as much as possible. That alone is the reason why the Cons deserved the majority win and it is clear that the rest of the country agreed.

The majority of the country disagreed with the long firearm registry since inception, yet it was rammed down our throats at the cost of multiple billions. Typical center and left of centre government for the sake of itself and not common sense.

The final straw was the continuous need to go to the polls every 2 years due to the personal ambitions of the latest Liberal leader, Dion, Iggy, whoever. Canad just decided enough and has now polarized and aligned its loyalties along language as well as political beliefs. Those who have voted NDP, your party now draws its strength from Quebec. I would suspect that that will change alot of its policies substantially. I suspect that the NDP's "national" status will now be much more provincially oriented and singularly directed to its base of strength in Quebec. For those that vote NDP.... well... good luck with that issue of "Quebec first".

I can't believe how many idiots live and vote up north! What is wrong with you people? If Duncan indeed wins it I hope you all get what you deserve! We have done our part and got rid of Lunn.

nice post you really are quite an individual.

I think it is disgraceful that people here voted the party in again in key " sport fishing" ridings with all the bitching people made for the rights to halibut. In the end there is talk, and reality. Right now I am looking at Duncan ( north Island) getting in which may actually happen. Now if I hear people complaining about halibut, and they voted for this government the message is " you get what you vote for". Anyhow that is just my opinion. I am happy that the NDP has taken the lead as the opposition. But in a way I have to understand it sounds like people made there decisions on all of the issues, so that is understandable.

Just don't expect things to change. The only change we will get for the fight is to get the NDP to keep bringing the issue up in parliament. As for the green party I think it was a good move. Again it shows not everybody is happy with the Conservatives....

There's only so many sportsfisherman man...let it go...holy ****! All the sportsfisherman I know voted against him, it's VERY possible a lot of people changed their vote who didn't see halibut as key issue...jesus man, get off your high horse!

Just CHOKED !!

WARAWA got in again in Langley. That Jerk Wouldn't stand up for any Halibut Sport fisher if his life depended on it .... he likes Pattisons fish .... like so many he'll some day collect his pension and leave.

You better PRAY that Shea is out for Fisheries Minister .... she's as blind as a BAT !

I agree David

There is a lot of fishermen I know who are looking the bigger picture and are not worried about halibut, they are more worried about their kids future and what it holds for them....fish take a back seat to family and quality of life.

And no I did not support HIM......

Cheers

Like I said, voted Liberal. I wasn't going to go against everything I believe in and vote NDP...but wasn't going to support Duncan either. Ya, insulting guys on this forum who are from the north island who didn't support him, grouping everyone into one batch, bull ****....GO ***** to people on the north island who aren't fishermen, not us on this forum who want our fair share of halibut too!

completely disagree fin, and i will tell ya why later, duncan up by 500 now....holmes*
Of course you will Holmes. You are a left leaning socialist pinko commie and I am a right wing oppressive manipulating capitalist pig. We are diametrically opposed and bound to be locked in eternal battle for evermore.

Nah just sh*tiing with yah. but I am a little right of center and you are a little left. While I voted conservative, my riding went NDP and I was rooting for Ronna-rae for North Island.

However, I'll also say I"m going to do everything I can to convince Mr Duncan that the 2-3 needs to come back and be implemented for all rec fishermen. If that means working with him, to get my point across, then so be it. Should I not be too busy, 2nd semester next year I'm going to try and volunteer for his office and get it done from the inside, plus in 10 years or so I hope to run myself for the Conservatives (should I still agree with their platform in that time) for Vancouver Island North...and no better way to do that than from learning the process through experience.

Awwwww crap, a 1000 a head now.......

Well off to bed and my internal clock is ticking slowly...

Have a good night fellas and hopefully in the morning we can turn the corner and get back to fishing.....

Cheers

We are defeated. Duncan is safe. Can't believe this happened. If I ever hear a north VI fishermen ***** about fisheries mismanagement by a conservative DFO minister again I am going to lose it. I will sell my business and move. Too bad that 3 guys will lose their jobs in the process.

why because we couldnt get the 25000 + people that voted for duncan on our side?

Quit blaming the north island anglers!

So Shea was re-elected, she's simply Harpers' puppet. Harper could care less about Pacific salmon or recreational fishing out here on our coast and we can all rest assured he had his majority in the bag before any of us in BC voted.

Congrats to all my fellow BC sporties' who voted Con and are happy with the results. Yikes!

I personally am disappointed that now Harper - with his shiny new majority - will have virtually free reign to jam all that he pleases up our hoops will little to no opposition.

On the upside, Fin Donnelly (New West/Coquitlam) got in and he is a huge wild salmon advocate along with a few other notables in the NDP who could be expected to go to bat for wild salmon in Ottawa.

Another triple Black Russian and I'm off to bed...

what if DFO was doing the counting, better do a recount with someone that knows how to count,lol...TRIPLE LH?, wow, thats hardcore...holmes*
As long as they only have to count to twenty and well if they have to they could get one of the guys to do the count and then they would be good to twenty-one:p;)

I've been away, watching TV and talking with friends via Skype.

It looks like Duncan has squeeked back in by 1799 votes - down from his 2400 in 2008.

I haven't had time to crunch the numbers yet to see where the votes came from or went to.

To be honest, I am amazed that Duncan was re-elected this time. I thought for sure that the Halibut and Fish Farm issues would have taken him out.

Anyway, I think we got a good result for the country. We will get at least 4 years of electorial peace without having to worry about going into a snap election. And that is a good thing.

Now, we have to keep the pressure on Duncan and Shea to fix the Halibut Allocation so that it is fair for everyone, and not just the commercial quota holders. I will be making my feelings known to our MP's and I hope you all will also.

Now, can we all go back to talking about fishing, and being friends again?
