Fall and winter are coming and its a great time to upgrade your on the water skills.
Lots of folks need to take the Maritime Radio course which will prepare you for the Restricted Operator Certificate (Maritime) with DSC Endorsement exam. Its a one day course plus exam.
To operate a maritime radio, you need the certificate. It's the law!

Lots of other great courses to take while your waiting to catch the big one next year.
Personally I am taking the Fundamentals of Weather course as I have always been interested in the weather.

Happy boating!

A lot of people think if they only listen and don't talk then they're OK without the ROC-M. Note that the govt these days considers the simple act of switching the radio on to be operating the radio, and therefore requires the operator certificate. Takes a day and well worthwhile. Could also help you avoid trouble if you run into an officious official.
