Here's what we've found to work:
Flasher on cannonball, 5-6 foot lead, no terminal.
Come up TWO feet (dangerously close) and put your release clip on.
From release clip, run 8-10 lb test (from trout rod) attached to a Krippled K or any of the new Gypsy spoons (they just came out with a bunch TESTED on sox) out the 2 feet above, and 6 to 8 feet behind the flasher.
Drop 8 feet.
Flasher on clip, again, 5-6' lead, no terminal.
Repeat light rod set-up.
Drop 8 feet.
Repeat for third rod that side. If incapable of third rod, put the flasher there regardless. Sox LIKE a LOT of flash!
Drop that side to 45 feet.
Repeat process on the other side, and drop to 40 feet.
Keep all the flashers the same (prefer the ones with a blue-green stripe on one side, but green based silver foil, and sometimes red based silver foil work).
Walla, you're covering the water at 45, 40, 35, 30, 25 and 20 feet. Can even go shallower for the pre-dawn bite, drop with the fish as daylight increases.
This method has proven very successful over the last five or six years, often waaay outfishing standard hootchie/flasher combos. If you're not comfortable without a meat-rod down there, put the heavy on the bottom. Loads of FUN on the light set-up! Once you've tried it, doubtfull you'll use another technique for these little scrappers!!!
BTW: This also works well for springs, but reduce to one flasher on the ball, they don't like nearly as much glitter (often spooks them), run spoons or rolling bait.
Cheers & ENJOY!
