Alberni This Weekend

okay thanx orca! funny you mentioned the E chip... after our annual sockeye camping trip one of the guys we had taken was so thankful for taking us among other things he bough us some gear. he got us an E chip flasher too! i went and bought the bait holder to go with it(glow green to match the flasher) and will be trying it at sooke this weekend. guys at gone fishin in nanamio say it gets them about 30% more strikes and those guys tell it straight up. anyway im curious to see if it works? and if i were you i'd throw out a 602 at 15 feet first thing...worked for me quite often!

Just got in from Alberni..one spring at China (12lbs) and a sox which was bleeding and still silver (7lbs) so we kept it for the lad... both on nasty boys behind a ghost ..saw another small spring come in at the same time....wind came up and we were just rounding #3 at China when we ran into a line from a float that was anchored at least 100 feet away....caught all the gear and when I coiled the loose rope it was well over 150 feet ....tied it tight to the scotchman and left it ...why people can't weigh down the excess cordage is beyond me!! No loss but I was the second boat to snag it today...Oh well that's fishing some days.

blueorca shoulda been at sooke with me this afternoon!(read my port in the sooke thread wow it was nuts) and ya i got hooked on some idiots float line in sockeye season- what a pain is all i have to say, cause the bite was on too(6 fish in half an hour at that time). and i tested my e chip flasher and bait holder...nothing. i'll give it another chance though probly.

Has anyone been back to Alberni lately? Just curious to see how far in the fish have moved. Thinking of going to poett nook, but don't want to go that far if I don't have to(fish pill point possibly if I go). Anyway, thanx!

Still slow up top for sporties and Commercial, ~~~~This below is from the DFO web site on last nights fishfest by the Big boys = About 4 fish per Gillnetter with 36 boats catching 125 fish but the target was 5000 fish it is not quite on fire yet .

Quote " In the fishery on the night of August 17/18, 36 vessels caught a total of
approximately 125 to 150 chinook (preliminary estimate). If the allocation
target is not achieved this week - and that appears highly unlikely - a fishery
the following week will be scheduled for 2030 Tuesday August 24 to 0400
Wednesday August 25 and possibly Wednesday/Thursday August 25/26. There was
discussion with the Area Harvest Committee about the advisability of going
ahead with tonight's fishery in light of the low catches last night. It was
decided that the fishery should proceed and those who wanted to could fish.
With a very low expected catch this decision should not affect future fishing
opportunities."""

well that sounds pretty horrible for my likelyhood of having sucess on sat., and they darn well better not change it till next week because thats when I'm heading up for a 5 day trip! wouldn't that be kinda strange for the DFO to let the commercials in during the heavy sport fishery(pretty good chances of a conflict/wrecking the fishing for a week)? this just seems a little weird to me.
