I didn't think the fishing could get any better then today happened lol! 7 miles of Spring salmon non stop all morning and the ave size was up in the mid 20's range. Left the river at 6am back at the dock tied up at noon with 10 springs all over 20 as well as many let go and 5 chickens. Flat calm water as well. Got all our fish on 7in plugs and apex's down anywhere from 100ft to 220ft.

Out in the fog and rain today, flat calm though. Got 5
springs over 20, 60 lb Hali and a 25 and 22 ling, some coho too.
And this is for regular guys, fishing is good I'd say.

Had a hard day at Camper saturday. Two sockeye and one seal meal for 10 hours of grinding. Sunday was much better. 1@ 20lbs and another at 30, plus two long line releases made for a much better day.
Not too shabby on the crabs either.

We're coming up tomorrow for 4 days. You've been wetting our appetite Kelly. Let's hope the weather behaves. Any fishbc members up there, give us a wave--19 ft sea chaser Arima.

Looking for springs on the bank

hey all,

New to this great and informative site. I am getting back into fishing with my own boat and have had a few trips to renfrew on the bank. a week ago got on the coho and picked up a big chicken trolling on the bank but didn't find the springs out there. In fact have never really got into the bank springs in other trips either. So with all due respect to favourite spots where should I drop the gear out there? I'm good with gear and depth just need a bit of intell as to where. going to be up for a week from the 23rd on.

cheers!

One of the pro's can give more detail than me. But in general, you go near J Buoy, then troll from there -- on a calm day in summer you'll see dozens of boats within 1km of there trolling for salmon and jigging halibut. Key is deep ... 150-200ft, usually with either big spoons, big plugs, or hootchies. If next weekend is anything like the last couple of weeks, you should not have to wait long. As soon as gear gets down, double headers, etc ... and as someone said earlier, that's just for regular folks! Good luck out there.

Looks like I'm gonna head back up thurs aft for maybe a night bite on beach and stay night for a bank run fri morning. Weather looks decent for a nice calm day out there fri! Kingspring jdsooka said it exactly. No flasher, big gear down deep. Hali can either be trolled up or jigged with little effort. Good luck out there!

Fished East Point in Pea Soup Fog this morning and caught two low twenties. Several short hits on the bait. The fish were smashing the bait but not connecting. Seemed to be lots of fish for the morning bite. I caught several Springs along the beach all week mostly around the tide changes.......although that's the only time I was fishing...lol definitely fish to be had along the beach. Back out for the week and the derby this weekend.....see ya on the water!

\Just got back from 4 days at Rennie. Thursday was too rough for us to go to the bank, so we fished Camper and the waterfall. The waterfall was best for us for a couple of springs and a halibut that came on the salmon gear. The last 3 days were at the bank for limits of springs. The coho were driving us nuts so I put on 7 " 109's and 153's down deep with good results. Felt good to fish 7 " plugs again--it's been a long time. On the way back to from the bank today stopped for a humpback show--a pair were breaching off Carmanah. It was a great trip.

Had a great time in Renfrew this weekend at the 11th Davey Derby which raises a lot of $ for great charities. First time in it and found out it has a ton of prizes - will be in it again next year. Managed to catch 9 springs in 2.5 days fishing the beach at Camper and Logan, including a 39.1 lb'er that won first prize (a new 9.9 Yammy kicker):D

The weather was great with some of the calmest water i've ever seen out there. Lots of good size springs coming in from the banks as well.

Hi Guys, I'm heading out to Renny next weekend and I've only fished there a couple of times in the last few years. I usually fish with chovie's on the west coast and am just wondering if I should stick with that or if there are any must have spoons, plugs or hoochies I should be try running? Thanks!

IMO always go with chovies when fishing along the shore - they are great for tempting those lazy fat springs into biting.

For offshore/banks where you get more dogfish you can use hootchies in any green/white glow, Purple haze or other UV patterns, white opaque UV is especially good. If there a lot of pinks and coho around intercepting your gear when fishing for springs I use 6 to 7 inch spoons and plugs in pilchard, UV, or glow patterns and colours. The springs on the banks, unlike the ones on the beach, are more actively feeding and our usually less fussy about the colour or pattern of your lure IMO. Hope that helps.

Thats great thanks guys. I always run one or two chovies and like to switch it up on the other rod to see what happens. I'll look at picking up a couple larger spoons to try out.

Swiftsure Banks is no place for no radar. another boat this weekend was pushed off the front of a ship. Crew jumped off the boat. Guys please think twice about heading out to the banks.. The weather changes very fast as people found out this weekend. lucky no one died. but it is coming as more and more boats are taking the risk..
Fishing was outstanding on the beach today......:)
