Winter Springs - Sooke

Fished for a few hours this afternoon in Sooke. Picked up 3 off the Sooke Bluffs. Most of the action in around 110-130 feet of water. A cop car spoon and some herring strip did the trick.

any size to them yet, or are they still 6-8 lbs on average ?

Not much size to them yet...between 5-7 lbs. Good on the barbeque though

ya I have, I know they taste good and I don't wanna get into anything - to each their own.

I just feel there would be a lot more value in that fish if left to get a bit bigger. Just my opinion.

Hopefully us saltwater guys can be more civilized then whats going on with the Freshwater [B)]

As they do in Wash state,certains regions are closed for durations. Should we be allowed to fish year round? Maybe not as its not a conservation measure. Theres shell fish closures off and on but nothing re Saalmon as far as I know. Just a thought.

well thats the thing, closing the winter fishing wouldn't save any numbers of salmon, but it would give each fish more value. Its an old debate, but to be happy with a 5lb fish when if left it could be 10X that size seems like a waste to me.
