Its the wind direction. The SE wind is coming straight down the Strait. Gordon's Beach/Sheringham is sheltered behind the land. BigWaveDave often shows windy conditions on E side of VI whereas Sooke will have light wind......

Went to check on the boat this morn at Pedder , so thought we'd go check out the waves !!!! Didn't even make it to the navy jetty before we had to turn around, huge huge water coming rite into the bay! The fish are safe today.

Lots of boats aground around the Victoria area. 8 in total. All of them were moored out. Busy day tomorrow doing clean-up. Here are a couple of photos from today.

Why is it always sail boats that get thrashed?

The god of horsepower is taking his revenge! Holmes is right. It is almost exclusively sailboats that put their trust in a mooring ball. Ok most days , but unless you have a fresh line with a safety it won't stand up on a day like today. Sailboats flood much faster when they beach because of the keel grounding and flopping the boat on it side.

I get a little POed at times with these guys , most of these boats will probably be rightoffs , with the owner being responsible for the cleanup. That usually never happens and the municipalities pick up the tab.

They are cheap and Oak Bay gets hammered in a strong SE'ster. You can count on a few boats on the beach in Oak Bay with every good SE storm. It is one thing to be cheap its is another thing to be cheap and stupid. They predicted the big winds and yet they didn't go down and even pay for a couple nights moorage until the storm passes. Dumb!!!!!
