What size inline fuse to install?

Hi guys, just installing a new-to-me Garmin Echomap 53DV sounder and thinking I should probably install a fuse in the line, just not sure what amp rating ..any suggestions?

A fuse protects the wire, not the device.
So using a 16 guage wire over about 8' (x2 for out and return = 16') a 10 amp fuse is fine.

It isn't, neither is it in the owner's manual. The new devices come with an inline fuse holders, mine is used and I don't have the fuseholder, that's why I asked.
