Boomer - nice work on those. Any more details?

I want to get out there this weekend - where should I go? Yellow Can? Flats?

Thanks
Where's the flats, sorry I'm new [:p]

The flats are about 2.5 miles directly south of the Cattle point
boat launch in Oakbay. There is a sandy bottom that ranges from 60'to
180'deep bordered on the west by Trial Island and by Discovery island on the east.
There were lots of small springs today and a 35lb halibut that took a whack at my gear and got stuck in the pectoral fin.
That was fun getting him to the boat !;)

Some nice feeders on the flats tonight...
out for half an hour, released 2 undersize and then had a double header of a couple of bigger ones.
Guts were stuffed with needlefish.

Waiting for you to turn pro and start guiding RS.
The flats are your territory.
Good fish.
Using your Longstone on them? Curious how your making out with it.

Works good Doug, i think i need to get the islander handles
put on it. The Hardy hdles are really small and hard to get a grip on. I understand Bill at Outfitter's does a good job .

Caught this on the 28th...the scale said 20lbs, felt bigger though.

Fishing must be slow. I went to the Jame Bay Anglers club house and ramp today to see how their annual two day derby was doing around 5 PM. Only two springs weighed in. The leader was a 22 lb fish caught off Constance on a Purple Haze Squirt. Next was an 11 lb spring from near the harbour entrance.

That's this weekend?!
I think i'll be out there tomorrow, i'll check it out.

Was out Saturday with the fleet and got a 12 pound spring at the harbour mouth just as the pilot boat was about to take off but hes such a considerate guy he held off till he was past me and then opened her up very much unlike the nobs with WA on their Gradys that love to come within twenty feet of your bow a full throttle as you are dealing with the aftermath of a catch and have your head down dealing with hooks etc.

Oak bay is still giving up some nice feeder's :D
These fish are bright red hatchery Springs typical of Nov/dec.
winter springs. Good fighter's as well.

Wow craven, that bottom one is a little pot bellied pig. Havent seen a little chubby one like that since last years winter fishing. Do you use those flashers often? Ive never tried those solid flashers in white and green or any other colors.

It's a good winter flasher, Glo white and glo green...
that fat one hit the squirt and then ripped off about 50 yards
before it slowed down. :D

Wow RS I need to stop underestimating Oak Bay. Are you having to go out early to get them? How deep usually? and are you on the flats or gap or..?

Nice work, keep the reports flowin' - its nice to see some fish!

Best tide has been mid to end of the flood on the flats.
keep your gear close to the bottom, and remember they are feeding on needlefish. ;)
