Boring around here lately... It's too early for me to admit that summers over. How come nobody's fishing - or is it just nobody's sharing? Still great weather and a couple fish around.

Got these after work last week. We got on the water around 5:15pm ran 20 min to the flats and fished until 7:30. Cr-AZY. Fish all over the screen, no bait to be seen and the half dozen boats out there all had bent rods.

Seems lucky to take kids out those are all springs. Two kids, two dads on board.

Already reported about my weekend trip it was a lot slower fished 2 hours for salmon and about 90 minutes for halibut. Scratched up the salmon certainly wasn't hot like mid week.

Here is a pic from my best solo day this season - mid August. I actually had better solo days for # of fish caught and size of springs but no other day did I get 4 salmon I could keep and a Hali on my own.

The great season that we've had is ongoing don't put the boats away yet. And please report about it my work days are terribly boring without some fish ****!

Holy crap GDW! I guess I picked the wrong place to fish last week!!i hit the wall and also Albert Head in search of fish, but only found 1 pink.
What were you using?

I'm hopingto get out tomorrow night if the wind stays calm. Vehicle and trailer repairs and kids getting back to sports and fundraising efforts has had me sidetracked for 2 weeks.

great catches by the way GDW. Save me a few.

I'll probably see you out there nauti, gear'n'beer and I are thinking about giving it a go too, after work.

Bait on one side spoon and or squirt on the other side. I usually run three rods but I think we mostly did two that day. Just kept right on top of the fish which is easier to do when there aren't a ton of boats out there.

Hit Constance last night after work for a quick fish from 6-730. Flat calm and warm with a sunset in the west and a matching moonrise from the east. Caught one small cookie cutter spring that had the misfortune of getting a siwash through his eye. He was a blast to fight on the vintage fibreglass coho/switch rod. West end lip on the usual hot spot at the start of the ebb, clear squirt with a glow stripe and some sparkles.

Only one other boat out there, but there was two guys at cattle point loading up their 7 ft long bass boat that they went jigging from. They caught a salmon somewhere close to cattle point too. Dangerously small boat, but successful trip nonetheless.

Fished Constance this morning 7 to 11, hit a few small springs, kept two, 8 and 10 #'s. 70/80 ft, army truck hootchie, and green coho killer.
Stosh

Fished 9-1 at Connie 80' -100' hugging bottom with coho killers and purple haze squirts hit 3 feeders 8-10lbs. Hit all the fish in the shadow of a freighter. All hatch jobs. Sun, BBQ and flat seas. Good last day of summer.

Anyone fish outside of constance for coho?
Wondering if they may be found closer to the border on the outer tide lines.

Thanks

Well my new boat arrived today. I'm quite excited about it. I'm sure a few people saw it getting delivered.

Mines the one in the middle.

Sweet hey? Quite the upgrade from my 17 ft'r. I'm a little confused though it was supposed to come in after my lotto win not before. I Guess my lucky numbers are coming up soon!

Nice day out there today I got a couple springs close to 10 lbs, released a 17lb Hali on the pick and had two mid to high teens coho chase a hooked dogfish right to the boat. They were darting around checking it out together. Pays to have a casting rod ready they were leaving by the time I whipped it out but both turned around for the buzz bomb. First fish darted in to strike, missed, but turned on a dime and picked up the bomber as the second fish cruised past. I was down maybe 10 feet and watched the whole thing no fear of the boat at all with those coho!

I wish I could say an awesome battle ensued but it was a dud. A couple rather pathetic jumps and lots of twirls. I hooked the fish with about 12 feet of line out I don't think it ever took me past 20 feet I watched the whole fight start to finish. Really neat to see who needs a go pro? It was a wild hook nose.

Dogfish kept me too busy to try much more casting and I never got a bigger halibut.

I wasnt at Constance. That ship was heading right into the harbour when I got back to esquimalt anglers with a two tug escort. It was headed right for the green can.

Yesterday we witnessed a cool Humpback show off Victoria while picked out yonder on Dave S' boat; 6+ whale breaches in a 5 minute span was a highlight to remember in an otherwise uneventful Hali trip.

*oops almost forgot to thank Dave S for his invitation, warm hospitality and cool vibes...
Hasta pronto amigo!
